How the Bible
relates to "Homosexual Christianity," or, "Christian Homosexuality"
"Can there truly be
such a thing as 'Christian Homosexuality,' or 'Homosexual Christianity'...?"
Response:
Around the world today, there are thousands of homosexuals who are members of
Christian churches, who love the Lord, and who practice many of the tenets of
Christianity. Perhaps they are living up to all the light they presently have
and sincerely want to follow Jesus. But if they will truly look to Him, they
will inevitably be changed. For by beholding Him we do become changed into
His likeness.
However, and I say
this kindly towards the "gay" community, practicing homosexuality is, in
essence, a rejection of Jesus Christ as Lord and Master. Many gays profess
Christ. They do "believe...." After all, the Bible says only believe in the
Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. So the gay "Christian," or the
"Christian gay", may attempt to practice religion and perversion side by
side. But, as Lord and Master, Jesus says,
"Not every one that
saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that
doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 7:21-23) The
apostle James concurs, "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well:
the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O
vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:19,20)
Apparently, belief without a corresponding lifestyle change is a dead belief
that amounts to deception...!
There really can be no
such thing as "Christian homosexuality," for the same reason that there can be
no such thing as Christian adultery, Christian murder, Christian drunkenness,
Christian drug addiction, Christian lying, Christian rock ’n’ roll, or
Christian idolatry, ad infinitum. Attaching the label "Christian" to one's
belief, practice, or perversion does not make it so. The word "Christian"
connotates discipleship, following after, in belief and
practice.
A good test of what is
"Christian" would be to ask, "Is there any indication in God's word that Jesus
condones or would participate in this belief, behavior, or practice?" As the
popular saying goes, "What would Jesus do?"
By beholding Him we
become changed into His likeness. A true Christian should remember that in
life he should be training for the marriage of Christ. One may have a
theoretical knowledge of the truth, but this will not save him. We must come
to know by experience how sinful sin is, and how much we need Jesus as a
personal Saviour. Only thus can we become sons and daughters of God. Our only
merit is our great need.
In light of all this,
many "Christian homosexuals" will still want to insist that they are just as
much saved by grace as any other Christian. But "Grace", according to the
Greek dictionary, is "the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection
in the life." It is the divine power that facilitates change.
Paul warns us in 2
Thessalonians 2:10-12 about those who are deceived in their unrighteousness
and thus led to perish, "because they received not the love
of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send
them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be
damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."
Again in his letter to
the Romans he stated, "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through
the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between
themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and
served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.
Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their
women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And
likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their
lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and
receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And
even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them
over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not
convenient" (Romans 1:24-28)
In essence, once the
homosexual comes to know Christ, he is faced with a decision, a choice. Will
he serve the Creator; trust and obey Him? Or, will he worship the created, and
continue in his life of servitude, in bondage to sin and Satan; Satan being
the perverter of all that God created to be holy?
The "Christian
homosexual", if truly Christian, will submit himself to the divine
reconditioning, therapy, reprogramming, re-creation process of the Creator who
loves him unconditionally.
Remember: "The Lord is
not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) Truly, "God is love." (1 John 4:8)
