At precisely 6:0'clock on Sunday evening, June 8, fifty-two Grade 12 students of Bahamas Academy marched proudly to the sounds of "Pomp and Circumstance" played eloquently by the Pathfinder Band. As they marched on the raised platform, their family and friends acknowledged how proud they were to see their son/daughter/friend successfully complete twelve years of schooling.

Bringing the Commencement Address was the President of the College of the Bahamas, Dr. Leon Higgs, who addressed the class theme: "Moulding the Future By Embracing the Past", and the motto: "The End is Just the Beginning." Twenty students graduated with honours: Russara Bain (Berea), Shantra Bell, Tersa Bovell (Maranatha), Charlestina Bowles, Laquita Braynen (Berea), Gerard Brennen (New Englerston), Lathara Burrows (Philadelphia), Danicka Butler, Simone Clarke (Hillview), Alexis Flowers (Grant's Town), Manishka Gilbert (Centreville), Pashley Godet, Takara Lewis (Johnson Park), Rithmond McKinney, Annika Major, Kendra Miller (Bethany), Awnetria Rahming (Hillview), Shaketra Smith, Lamont Tinker (Centreville) and Latoya Toote (Maranatha),

Twelve students were named to the Principal's Honour Roll and received trophies for being named to the Honour Roll since Grade 10: Tersa Bovell, Laquita Braynen, Gerard Brennen, Lathara Burrows, Danicka Butler, Simone Clarke, Alexis Flowers, Annika Major, Kendra Miller, Awnetria Rahming, Lamont Tinker and Latoya Toote

Valedictorian of the Class was Gerard Brennen (New Englerston), and Salutatorian was Lathara Burrows (Philadelphia).

Receiving the Dr. Joseph Evans Chemistry awards for the top Chemistry grades were Gerard Brennen and Tersa Bovell. The first annual Noel Williams Memorial Business Award for the top Business student was presented to Alexis Flowers, and receiving the Bessie Mae Rolle Memorial Award for the most improved female student was Tersa Bovell.

Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to Pastor K. D. Albury and Dr. John Carey for their invaluable contributions and support of the School Board during the last quadrennium.

Bringing the sermon during the Baccalaureate Service on Sabbath was Pastor L. A. Johnson who spoke very plainly to the students from 1 Thessalonians 1:6-8. The class sang about their determination to 'hang in there' when they rendered Kurt Carr's composition of "I Almost Let Go". Another moving song of dedication came from Bridgette Bell and Carlisa Wright as they sang Donnie McClurkin’s and Yolanda Adams' song, "The Prayer". This service was truly one of inspiration and commitment. Thanks to the Class Sponsors Marie Rolle, Stephan McBean, and Dianne Woodside for their assistance in preparing this class for their special week-end. Please be advised that the administration of Bahamas Academy is not sponsoring nor supporting any senior class prom or party. - Lynn C. Smith, Principal
