Persons may benefit from the legal aid clinic by first making an appointment and calling the conference.  Everything you say to any of our lawyers at legal aid is held in strictest confidence.  At your appointment you will be asked about your legal problem in order to determine how best to further assist you.  You can help us help you by having at hand all the facts, documents, names and dates concerning your matter.  Accordingly, we may give you legal advice, information or a referral to another agency or program.  We may provide you brief service such as making telephone calls or writing letters on your behalf or we may, on the merits of your case, represent you at a hearing or in court.

How we handle your case depends on what it is you want, what it takes to resolve your matter and the availability of our legal aid staff.  More particularly, to qualify for our legal aid you must be of low or modest income, reside in the Bahamas, have exhausted pastoral or other non-legal services available to you and have a civil or criminal legal problem.  Our service is free except for a small administrative fee.

Additionally, we provide education to groups and organizations of poor or needy people concerning their legal rights in order to prevent certain problem from occurring in the future.  Our mission is to advocate, not for profit, in general areas of law and to provide equal access to justice, without regard to race, religion or ethnicity, thereby ministering in Christ’s stead to uplift the least of humanity in our society.

Finally, it is important to us that we hear from you as to your opinion of our services.  If you do not like something we have done, we urge you to tell us.   Feel free to make a suggestion as to how our services may be improved.  Your views or concerns are taken seriously and in good faith.  Help us help each other as together we enable victims to become victors through compassionate Christocentric legal aid services.
