GOVERNOR-GENERAL VISITS B.A. ELEMENTARY
It was a royal treat, indeed, when the car of the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Orville Turnquest, drove through the gates of Bahamas Academy Elementary School on Monday, May 29, 2000.
The students were electrified, excited and full of enthusiasm. The teachers were nervously excited. The Conference officials were professionally attired, and well prepared to carry out their responsibilities. These preparations made our day a success.
The Governor-General of The Bahamas was at our school, and addressed our students. He encouraged them to be better than he is, and in order to do this, he said, they must study hard. As he addressed the students, he moved centre stage in order to be close to them. They are the potential leaders of tomorrow, he told them, and they must be focused on their goal, which is to be the best they could be. He encouraged the teachers to continue to be the best they could be, and in the end, our students will emulate them.
The day ended for the Governor-General with a brief tour of the school, and individual teachers' conferences of acquaintance. This was a day well spent.
