THE LOGOS

A Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Weekly Publication Volume 5, Number 21, May 20, 2000

A WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

This window is the "heart" of the need for more than 3.4 billion people. This figure represents 60% of the world's population. They live in what is called the 10/40 window that is, the latitudinal points on the world map. This would cover from the Sahara in Northwestern Africa to Barcelona, Spain, or India to China in the Southeastern area of Asia. Look at some of the areas in this window: Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Greece, Spain, The Mediterranean Basin, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Burma, China, Korea, and Japan.

Wow, what a window of opportunity! An opportunity to help finance the gospel to over half of the world's population. An opportunity to help fulfill the promise of Matthew 24: 14: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." The goal is to establish 1,040 new congregations in the 10/40 window. Why? Because of the gospel commission of Matthew 28:19 & 20, and because of our existence as a church or movement with the mandate of Revelation 14: 6.

Consider that only about 1% of the people in this "window of need" believe in Jesus. Thus eternal life could escape them (see John 17:3) without your help. Further, fewer than .001% are Seventh-day Adventists. Thus the joy and blessings of being a part of God's remnant church (see Rev. 12: 17) escape them without your help. Yet, there is a window of hope and that is found in this window of opportunity. Our world church is reaching out to these people. You can participate with a GENEROUS OFFERING placed in the special "GC 2000 Offering" envelopes that will be available to you on May 27 and June 3, 2000.

Our goal here in the Bahamas Conference is to raise a minimum of $9,000.00. Let us, by the grace of God, exceed that amount by giving generously on one of the next two Sabbaths.

Of course this is over and above our regular tithe and offering. Let's sacrifice for this most worthy cause. Your gift to this Window of Need makes it instead a Window of Hope. Wow, what a "Window of Opportunity" God has given to us. I plan on using it. How about you?

-M. A. Smith, Stewardship Director

PASTOR BURROWS TO BE ORDAINED

June 3, 2000, at 4:30 p.m. has been designated for the ordination of Pastor Andrew E. Burrows at the Grant's Town Church, Wellington Street.

In 1990, Pastor Burrows commenced his studies at West Indies College in preparation for the Ministry. In April, he conducted Easter Evangelism (crusade) in Trelawny, Jamaica, resulting in baptisms.
