LONGER HOURS FOR ABC

It's new and it's ours! It's our ABC! You would be proud to walk into our spacious, well-stocked Adventist Book Centre, which opened its doors to the public on Monday, October 2, 2000. Manager S. Neil McKinney and his assistant, Curline Forbes, worked hard to get the store ready just for you.

What is more exciting is that we now have longer store hours and Sunday shopping to meet the needs of the busy Adventists and other residents. Regular store hours are now Mondays to Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The ABC will also be open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Come and enjoy the wide variety of your traditional vegetarian foods and some you have never seen before -- from nuts to hot patties, and from cool drinks to dried fruits.

Coming soon will be the island's largest variety of frozen vegetarian meat stocked in our brand-new, upright and full-size freezer. There are books, books, and books, covering every subject from the New Age Movement to having loving relationships. We even have the SDA Bible Commentary on CD Rom. The ABC is located on Harrold Road in our new Conference Office building. Come, a friendly staff awaits you. See you tomorrow!

GUIDELINES FOR WEDDINGS PART II

Dress

Great care should be taken in choosing individuals who will form the wedding party. They should be informed that this is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian wedding and that certain principles must first be established if they are desirous of supporting you on your wedding day. These standards relate to dress, the wearing of jewelry and conduct during the church service.

Proper dress is of essence during rehearsal since the practice sessions will be held in a church building. Ladies and men should be properly attired. No shorts (either sex), revealing tops or pants for females should be worn.

Time

Time is very important to the minister. Therefore, those contemplating marriage should be aware that unnecessary delay or tardiness in attending dress rehearsal and the wedding itself by those involved robs the minister of vital time with his family and other parishioners in need of his services.

The sacrifice of the musicians, deacons and those rendering essential services should also be considered. In some quarters, charges are levied for those services rendered or for tardiness.

Music

Great care should be exercised in choosing the music for the ceremony. Remember that this is a sacred service, and there should be no conflict between the event and the place. Secular music, without question, is highly inappropriate during the church ceremony. Therefore, all music should be carefully examined by the officiating minister.

Reception

Certain liberties are allowed at the social function of the wedding. However, a guided approach should be taken by the couple to ensure that events do not occur that might prove embarrassing for ministers in attendance.

These might include:

a) An emcee who does not fully understand the Seventh-day Adventist culture, telling inappropriate jokes

b) Calling for the first dance of the newlyweds

c) Presentation of a menu that does not conform to our teaching on diet. It is suggested that the parents of either the bride or groom, who may not be members of our faith, but are desirous of funding the reception, be advised in advance concerning Adventist diet, so that appropriate choices can be made by the caterers.

Please watch next week's Logos for the conclusion of this article.
