THE LOGOS

A Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Weekly Publication Volume 7, Number 10, March 9, 2002

Shiloh SDA Church Dedicates its New BuildingIt was an experience of worship, praise and thanksgiving to God, as hundreds of friends and well-wishers joined with members of the Shiloh SDA Church at Grasmere Drive and Torcross Road, Grand Bahama, for the dedication service of their new church building.

From humble beginnings in a rented facility on Yellow Pine Street, the Shiloh Church, on Sunday, dedicated a beautiful edifice in which members can be proud to worship God.

According to Pastor E. Bryan Tinker, the ‘completed building stands as a living testament to the miraculous power of God,” and to the fact that He “is able to do marvellous things for us and through us when we put our trust in Him.”

The church was established on May 1, 1993, and after it was relocated from Yellow Pine Street to a building on Forbisher Drive, then to a portion of the old Hawksbill High School, the construction of the building on two acres of land purchased from Grand Bahama Port Authority for $10,000 began in 1996, shortly after the ground-breaking ceremony by Pastor K. D. Albury, president of the Bahamas Conference of SDA.

Bringing remarks during the dedication celebration were Pastor K. D. Albury, who led an impressive group of ministers and departmental leaders from headquarters in New Providence, Ambassador David Thompson and Dr. Marcus Bethel. The sermon was delivered by Dr. Patrick L. Allen, president of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Dr. Allen observed that the primary purpose of the building was for the proclamation of the gospel, “a place for learning, a refuge for the disconsolate, a rock of defence, and hope for those who trust in God.” He also noted that “the church is to be an instrument for bringing men and women to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.”

During the dedication service, several individuals were recognized for their unselfish contributions to the construction of the church and to the advancement of the kingdom of God. These included Elder A. Ferguson, Elder D. Lowe, Elder B. Thompson, Elder V. Jordine, Bro. T. Rahming, Bro. S. Burrows, Bro. F. Rigby, Bro. W. Rolle, Bro. S. Rolle, Bro. G. King and Sister Edith Sturrup, in whose honour the church’s Youth Hall was named.-Pastor E. Bryan Tinker

Adventist Spotlight

Today marks an historic moment in our Conference after years of wishing and dreaming about a weekly television program. That is correct--Adventist Spotlight, a sixty-minute locally produced television program, makes its debut on Cable Bahamas channel 12 from 11a.m. to noon today. This weekly production showcases hope, Adventist worship, inspirational music and Adventist historical notes. Today’s worship features the singing of Allison Mason, the SDA Convention Choir, and preaching of Dr. Patrick Allen, president of West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Subsequent programs will highlight preaching and singing of each church district and pastor (Family Islands included). Your support is needed as we venture in this area of reaching out to our sick and shut-in members, as well as the community at large. To accommodate local members we are negotiating a repeat showing of each program at a time convenient for all members.

Seminar for Teachers Pastor Errol Thomas, Director of Education for West Indies Union, accompanied by Dr. William and Mrs. Green, will conduct an Integration of Faith and Learning seminar for teachers of Bahamas Academy and Grand Bahama Academy on March 10 and 11, respectively. Northern Region Holds Family Life Seminar in Grand Bahama

Broad smiles, peals of laughter and thrills of joy and an anxiety to hear more were some of the reactions to the Family Life Seminar that was conducted by versatile Pastor Barrington and Mrs. Brennen from February 13 to 17, 2002, in Grand Bahama.

They introduced a whole new outlook on marriage and the family, a serious topic, yet imparted in a very humorous and interesting way. This topic is very challenging to present in today’s society which has so many values and standards. Domestic violence, divorce and sexual molestation are on the increase. Sessions such as these should help God’s people get back on track and prepare for His coming Kingdom.

The week was also a historic one in that Pastor P. A. Scavella and Elder Benjamin Sands informed the public of a bi-monthly breakfast program that commenced at the Freeport Church on Sunday, February 17, 2002.

This was considered a tremendous success. Pastor Sacvella opened the program with God’s word, a devotional thought. He was followed by Dorcas leader, Sister Mavis Grant and her associates who served a scrumptious meal.

With God’s guidance may we continue to serve the whole man. - E. Lopez, Communication Dept.
