LogosPathfinders: An Army Of Youth Rightly Trained
The General Conference has designated the third Sabbath of September in each year as Pathfinder Day. Like other fields around the world, September 17, 2011 was a day of celebration in our churches around the South Bahamas Conference as Adventurers, Pathfinders and Masterguides participated in Sabbath morning worship.
On the island of New Providence, a joint AY was held at the Hillview Church. A full army of youth gathered to interact, via Skype, with the World Youth Director, Pastor Gilbert R. Cangy. It was an enriching experience as our youth used the opportunity to seek counsel on areas of concern. It was indeed a refreshing experience for our youth to dialogue on issues such as 'wristband wearing" and "theatre attendance". The world director's counsels were well received by our pathfinders.
After an exchange of greetings, pleasantries and further questions from the conference president youth director and assistants, Pastor Cangy gave a word of exhortation and advice to the congregation. In addition, he gave a synopsis of his spiritual journey and praised God for the new direction his life has taken since his humble beginnings. He deems his new responsibilities as evidence of God's call on his life for greater and more specific service to the youth.
The day concluded with a vibrant social especially planned for our youth.

LogosAdventist Community Services: Love In Action
To love Jesus is to love all who need our care! Weekly, throughout the various Adventist Community Services (ACS) Centres across the Bahamas, hundreds of community services volunteers show the love of Christ though ministries, such as: food and clothing distribution, serving of hot meals, elderly care, and spiritual nurture.
On Tuesday, September 13, Pastor Al Powell, Youth and Personal Ministries Director of the Atlantic Caribbean Union; Pastors Wilfred Adderley and Andrew Burrows, Personal Ministries Director and Community Services Coordinator of the South Bahamas Conference respectively, were privileged to serve with the Hillview Church ACS team.
The day started at approximately 9:00 A.M. with the preparation of hot meals. Once the meals were cooked, another group of volunteers conducted the distribution. Several teams delivered meals to individuals as well as various senior citizens’ homes. According to the ACS leader of Hillview, approximately 170 hot meals were served on that day.
We were delighted to serve at the Yellow Elder Senior Citizens’ Home. Additionally, we prayed with the elders and encouraged them to be strong in the Lord. We commended the manager of the home and her staff for their acts of service to those in need. The manager responded by expressing her gratitude to ACS for the faithful service rendered to the home each week through hot meals and visits. Jesus himself said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.” Adventist Community Services... Love in Action. - Pastor Andrew E. Burrows, ACS Coordinator, South Bahamas Conference

LogosIt Took A Miracle Of Love And Grace
As we reflect on the past seven years of hard labour, sacrifice, literal sweat, and fervent prayer, we can proudly yet humbly say He has brought us this far by faith.
We celebrate God’s providential interventions marked by our members and community friends’ involvement in bringing this mammoth project, the new Bahamas Academy, to the point of occupancy. My brothers and sisters, we praise God for His awesome power that enables our boys and girls to be educated in a Seventh-day Adventist Christian environment. Bahamas Academy is a household name in our conference and rightly so. It is the only school owned and operated by us. You see, when God established the Schools of the Prophets, He had a blueprint. This blueprint has been the guide that charted our course for 100 years.
Yesterday, our excited students attended orientation in their new surroundings. It was a historic day in the life of the South Bahamas Conference when hundreds of students, parents, faculty, staff, Union and Conference Officers, members of the Conference Executive Committee and School Board converged on the site to thank God for the privilege to inhabit a state of the art edifice. A place that will nurture and care for students who will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
This reality results from the efforts of our former and present conference officers, VBA, workers, membership at large and community friends. Yes, we laboured as in the days of Nehemiah… we were on the building and we would not come down until it was finished. We were doing a good work, now we pause to thank God for the marvelous work He has done through His people.

LogosHeeding The Word For Vision One Million
The voice of our General Conference President, Elder Ted Wilson, resounds throughout the world as Seventh-day Adventists embrace the call for ‘Revival and Reformation’. The three phases of this initiative are: (1) “Constant in Prayer” launched in February 2011; (2) “Heeding the Word” launched July 2011 and (3) “Ten Days of Evangelism” which will be launched February 2012.
“Heeding the Word” focuses on the study and teaching of the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. For two days church leaders participated in a Bible conference with special emphasis on the theological foundation of the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy. Members from the Biblical Research Institute held a series of seminars during the conference. It is against this backdrop that the Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Department of the Inter-American Division structured “Vision One Million” an evangelistic program for training and reaping that seeks to train one million Seventh-day Adventist members to witness and win one million new members to Christ. The Bible declares “Preach the Word; be instant in season and out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2).
Today, all our churches across the Union and Division will engage in “Heeding the Word”. Our conference president, Pastor Paul Scavella will accompany Dr. L. A. Johnson, President of Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission and Pastor Al Powell, Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Director, in a broadcast at the Living Faith church.
