Next
week will be historic in our conference as our youth department will host
the West Indies Union's Masterguides Camporee. Yes. Here, in The
Bahamas. It is easy to recognize that all around us, men and women have not concerned themselves with securing salvation with Jesus Christ. Self-service and pleasure are the order of the day. Camporee '03 is a testament that God still works in the lives of youth in the Bahamas Conference and West Indies Union, and that the youth of this Union are willing to be used by The Almighty. The Masterguides attending the camporee will also engage in community services such as painting projects at the Mary Ingraham, in Emerald Gardens and the Shepherd’s Nest Home for girls on Augusta Street. It is not too late to be a part of this grand camporee. All Masterguides and masterguides in training need to sign up no later than Monday, April 14, 2003, at the Conference Office. Two cooks are needed for the camporee. Please call Pastor Burrows for details. -Audley Mitchell
Good News Church News: Home Coming, 2003 At 9:15 a.m. Sabbath, March 29, 2003, the Good News Church came alive with singing: "Lift Up The Trumpet, and Loud Let it ring, Jesus is Coming Again." Many former and present members, along with visitors and special guests, filled the sanctuary for the Sabbath School’s department "Home-coming Day, 2003. Lenita Butler, Superintendent presented the special theme "Almost Home" derived from Matthew 24:14, "And this gospel of the Kingdom, shall be preached in all the world, as a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come." During the Divine-hour worship, all former Pastors were welcomed, recognized and commended for their ministry at Good News SDA Church: Pastor Jeff Thompson, founder, 1988 - 1989, Pastor Victor Victor Cargill, 1990 -1991, Pastor Neville E. Scavella, Builder, 1991 - 1998, Pastor Daniel Major and Pastor Owusu Boateng gave three months intern service with Pastor Scavella; Pastor Eric D. Clarke, six month (1998 ), and Pastor Leo C. Rolle, 1999- 2003. The present pastor, Wilfred T. Adderley, introduced Pastor Jeff Thompson, president of the Cayman Islands Mission, who preached a powerful sermon using Philippians 4:6-8 and Matthew 24:14. He reviewed some events from the past, but focused on present issues, exhorting the church to rejoice, give God thanks, evangelize because we are Almost Home. The Good News Kingsmen and the Sanctuary choir gave special music. After a delicious vegetarian lunch and warm Christian fellowship, the Preaching Marathon, Praise and Thanksgiving Celebrations began 3 p.m. and continued until sunset. At 3 p.m.: Pastor O. Boateng reminded all that family relationships are most important as we are nearing home. At 4 p.m.: Pastor N. E. Scavella warned of false religion and encouraged commitment to the truth as we are Almost Home. At 5 p.m. Pastor Leo C. Rolle exhorted everyone to display love in the family of God because we are Almost Home. At 6 p.m. Pastor Leonard A. Johnson, president of our conference, encouraged all from the Emmaus Road experience to know Christ and let his word burn within our hearts as we are Almost Home. (Continued on p.2) Pastor W. T. Adderley climaxed the well spent Sabbath hours with his original song, "Heaven Is a Real Place," and a moving prayer of consecration. Special thanks to the various church choirs: Breath of Life, Bethany, New Englerston, Harmonious Praise and Pastor D. Major, Sis. Nicole Scavella, Bro. Leo Rolle, Sis. Mary Knott and daughter, J. Education Corner Administrative Complex- 394-0094 (This is a weekly column sponsored byBahamas Academy of SDA) Children are a precious gift from God! Most people are naturally drawn to young children because their actions and sayings sometimes cause us to chuckle. Adults also wonder why God gave so much energy to children and so little to senior citizens (let's remember to ask Him when we get to Heaven). But children have so much to contribute to the enjoyment of this life and we should allow them to enjoy their childhood. Do you remember the poems you learned, the multiplication tables you recited every day, and the spelling words you memorized? The students from the elementary division took me back to my childhood school days recently when I attended a General Knowledge competition between the four Houses of the school-Stingray, Marlin, Dolphin, and Barracuda. Students were quizzed in the areas of Bible, math, language, civics, and science. Competition was so keen that at the end of all the rounds, there was a tie for first place between Stingrays and Dolphins. However, after another round of questions to break the tie, Stingrays came out ahead. Each House was well represented:
Special thanks to the Curriculum Committee for a superb job: Chloe Weir (chairperson), Violet Bowlin, Carla McGarvey-Sterling, Esmae Cox, Stephanie Dawkins, Beryl Little, Carol Jackman, Jennifer Moncur, and Celestine Creighton. We are inviting you to further enjoy the talents of our elementary division tonight as they present an Easter production entitled "Behold the Lamb of God" at the H. D. Colburn Gymnatorium beginning at 8:00 p.m. Adults: $7.00. Children (12 and under): $3.00. The Christmas season is usually the time when we enjoy the presentations of the younger children. However, they were not able to present a program this past December. The Easter season is another wonderful time of the year when we focus on the life of Christ-this time His death, burial, and crucifixion. Please join the students of the elementary division as they portray this aspect of Christ's life in song, pantomime, and drama.
