It may be just coincidental that while Christians in general will commemorate the resurrection tomorrow, throughout the world of Adventism we are recognizing today, April 19, 2003, as Publishing Ministry’s Day. At this time we are giving particular attention to the Publishing Ministry and that army of dedicated messengers who spread the gospel of hope - hope in the coming of Jesus - to a hopeless world. The work of Publishing Ministry is mainly that of coordinating the distribution of inspirational, educational books, magazines, etc. to the world. As people read these materials, they are directed to Jesus, the Risen Lord who has promised to return for all who trust and obey Him. Given the social, political, financial and religious turmoil in the various countries of the world, we are comforted to know that because of the resurrection, a better day is coming. The Apostle Paul declares in chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians that the resurrection is a necessity for the Christian, for if the dead is not risen, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, our faith is meaningless. Then Paul states the following: "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept." (1 Corinthians 15:19-20) The resurrection of Christ has made it possible for everybody who dies in Him to be raised to eternal life. Indeed, this is good news which ought to be shared with everybody. Because they realize the importance of getting the message out to as many people as possible, literature evangelists are special people. Those who have dedicated themselves to this most important work must be encouraged to be persistent and consistent in carrying out their responsibilities. However, more people need to be given the good news of the resurrection. Accordingly, more literature evangelists are needed to take the message of hope to all who will listen The Publishing Ministry of The Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist would like young men and women who meet the following qualifications to answer the call and join that group of committed individuals called Messengers of Hope: 1. Be in good health. (Spouse must be healthy, too). 2. Be less than 52 years old. 3. Be an active, baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 4. Secure a recommendation from your pastor. 5. Ensure that your application is approved by the Conference Committee 6. Attend an interview with a representative form the Publishing department or Publishing Committee. 7. Have an earnest desire to join the literature ministry 8. Make commitment to serve God and fellow men. We believe that the Publishing Ministry will be instrumental in preparing men and women to accept the will and way of the resurrected Christ. God is calling for workers who are seriously concerned about getting the message out so that souls might come into the kingdom of God. If you are willing to respond to this call, please attend the meeting tomorrow, at the Philadelphia Church, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. -Dr. John Carey, Publishing Director

Fires of Evangelism Continues Five weeks have passed since the forces of the Bahamas Conference launched a blistering attack on the enemy forces of evil. Our reporters who are embedded with the troops on the front line tell us that the battle is going well. The Grant’s Town, Hillview, and Johnson Park battalions have completed the first phase of the current offensive and have convinced dozens of soldiers from the enemy’s camp to surrender. They are now rejoicing in the new freedom that they have found in the camp of Jesus Christ. The following is an update on the baptisms to date as compared to the year’s goals for the various districts:
It should be noted that most of the districts are still in crusades, or they will be starting soon. We must give God the glory for what has been accomplished thus far for the quarter. - Dr. John Carey, Editor
Northern Caribbean University Distance learning In an effort to meet the demand for graduate level education, Northern Caribbean University has decided to establish a Distance Learning Center to facilitate the offering of MA and Doctorate degrees in various disciplines here in the Bahamas. This distributed educational initiative has two components. The first is the ability to pursue a degree via Internet and e-mails. The second is a video and teleconferencing seminar room that would serve as a remote site for synchronous meetings in disciplines that require regional groups to meet together regularly. We solicit your much-needed support in this venture as we strive to further Christian Education in our region. For additional information, please contact Bro. Barry Saunders, Project Coordinator, at 356-8367, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
Welcome to Camporee The administration, office staff and the entire Bahamas Conference family extend a very sunny WELCOME to all Masterguides who have come to attend the Camporee. May your stay in the Bahamas be enjoyable.

Education Corner See Web Page If you missed the Easter program put on by the Elementary Division last Saturday night, you missed a wonderful program! First of all, the Easter "flavour" was different and refreshing since we are accustomed to Christmas productions each year. Then each item had a different "flair" and lent to the variety of the program. You recall in last week's column, I mentioned how precious children are and how much they add to the enjoyment of one's life. Well, if you missed the two numbers performed by the children of the Early Learning Centre, you missed a part of your life! Jade Stubbs and Brittnie Bowleg stole the show with their animated movements in their rendition. Jade was so excited about her song that she hit the microphone with her head, but she kept on singing. Then she and Brittnie went on to do an encore rendition when the Emcee called them back to the stage. Children are indeed a precious gift from God! There were songs, poems, choral speaking, drama, sign language, and interpretive/liturgical dancing-all reflecting the theme: "Behold the Lamb of God". We were reminded through these avenues about the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and how important His sacrifice on the cross is to us today. Especially moving was the rendition of "Alabaster Box", sung passionately by Grade 6 student Donielle Goodard. You could envision Mary washing the feet of Jesus with her tears and drying them with her hair as she sang that song. The choir did a superb job as they interwove their numbers with the drama section. My favourite selections were "Behold the Lamb of God" and "He Did It". The teachers of the elementary division need to be commended for their hard work and creativity in producing a program of this caliber. Every staff member had a hand in making the program a success and for this I say "thanks". Special thanks also go out to the Emcee for the evening-Mr. Roderick Rolle, a member of the New Providence Church and the 2002 Teacher of the Year. Hats off also to the audio-visual team from the Conference, Akin Barr and Philip Humes, who provided us with an excellent sound system which enabled the audience to hear all the items clearly . We look forward to next year's production! Before I end the column this week, let me digress to another topic that will be discussed in length at a future time-the important role that alumni play in the development of a school. Many of you have passed through the halls of Bahamas Academy and you are where you are today because of the excellent foundation Bahamas Academy provided you with. What have you given back to your alma mater? We want to start an Alumni Hall of Fame (more about that later). The Class of 1993 has started the ball rolling. They are sponsoring a cookout on Easter Monday at the grounds of Bahamas Academy and we would like everyone to support it (tickets are available at the school). This is their second fundraiser and they have other plans along these lines. Calling the Classes of 1973 and 1983-this is your 30th and 20th year, respectively. Don't let these 'younger' alumni outdo you. We would like to include you in the Alumni Hall of Fame as well. (Please give the Principal a call for more details). See you at the cookout!
