Bahamas Academy Reorganizes Administration
After a study into the feasibility of amalgamating the secondary and elementary divisions of Bahamas Academy into one school, the special committee appointed by the Conference Committee to conduct this study recommended changes in the following areas:

A. Administrative Structure

  1. Elimination of the position of principal for each division of Bahamas Academy.

  2. The appointment of one principal for both Elementary and Secondary schools.

  3. The appointment of a vice-principal for each division.

  4. The appointment of a Senior Master and a Senior Mistress.

  5. The empowerment of heads of department with the appropriate remunerations.

B. Finance

One treasurer would co-ordinate the activities of the accountants and cashier within the school. This is to be enhanced by the installation of a Wide Area Network computer system.

C. Cafeteria Service

One coordinator would coordinate and plan, in conjunction with staff, the services for both divisions. This would require the upgrading of the current facilities in terms of space and appliances.

The Conference Committee accepted the report of the special committee, and has approved the implementation of the recommendations for the 2002/2003 school year. Accordingly, the following persons have been asked to serve as follows:

Principal of Bahamas Academy:  Lynn C. Smith, MA

Vice-principal for elementary division:  Celestine Creighton, BA

Vice-principal for secondary division:  Marcus M. Rahming, MA

Senior Master for Secondary Division:  Ronald Julien, MA

Senior Mistress for elementary division: . Hermia Brown, AA

Business ManagerCherry Blackmore, BA

It is our hope that this reorganization of Bahamas Academy will enhance the productivity and efficiency of the operation, and provide the climate to deepen our Christian witness through the integration of faith and learning. -Dr. John Carey, Director of Education

Sermon at World Health Day Service Part II The President of The Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists appeals to parents to pull their children away from television sets, and encourage them to go outdoors to reap the benefits of increased physical activity.

Pastor Keith D. Albury, delivering a sermon at a World Health Day service April 7 at Golden Gates Assembly, said, "Whatever we can do to get people off the couch and active will bring great benefits to The Bahamas. Why not try gardening, mowing the lawn, etc.? Let’s get our young people away from the TV and video games. Get them outdoors, engaged in some physical activity."

He also expressed concern about the degradation of the environment in terms of the tendency of people to throw garbage anywhere. As a result, one saw more and more infestations of rats and other disease-carrying rodents. "We have become more affluent as a people," he said, "and yet our environment seems to be getting dirtier and more polluted."

Pastor Albury said he is concerned about "the mangy dogs we are contented to let roam our neighborhoods among our children, playing in the yard or on the streets. No wonder we have so many children picking up all sorts of infections."

He said air pollution is increasing in New Providence because of bad-running vehicles on the streets and jitneys that belch black smoke. He called for enactment of legislation to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke in public places.

Referring to the exodus of more than half a million children of Israel from Egyptian bondage, Pastor Albury said the only recorded epidemics on their long desert journey were the result of direct disregard of divine instruction. No human waste of any kind was allowed within the encampment, and all possible control was exerted in its proper care elsewhere. This concern for cleanliness was each person's first line of defense against sickness and the community's protection. All who were in contact with contaminating diseases were isolated from the camp, quarantined until they and every person they had touched and everything they had touched were cleansed and declared safe, according to Leviticus 15:4-12. He said a disease thought to have been leprosy or syphilis that killed millions of persons in the Middle Ages, and the Black Death, which took an estimated 75 million lives in medieval times, were both brought under control when biblical concepts were implemented. -C. Symmonett, - -Part II .

New Providence Sanctuary Choir Visits Marsh Harbor Church, Abaco   It was the merging of two island cultures when approximately 50 members and friends of the New Providence SDA Sanctuary Choir touched down on Abaco on the weekend of April 12-14th, 2002. The weekend was a culmination of months of eager anticipation and long practice sessions. Under the leadership of Bro. Ralph Rolle and his assistants, this youthful group planned to take Marsh Harbor by storm in concert with the theme "Jesus -- His Glorious Return."

Members of the group were welcomed by Pastor Roger Moncur and Bro. Willard Cooper, their bus driver and tour guide. Everyone was anxious to arrive at his place of residence, so as to see the sights before evening. There was time for one last rehearsal, and at the end, there was no doubt that the choir would make a positive impression and bless their audience.

Sabbath morning was simply glorious. With mild breezes and bright sunshine, the members were in high spirits and eager to arrive at church on time. As expected, the Sabbath School and Divine Service were conducted by the visitors. The services were held jointly with members from the Crossing Rock and Cooper's Town Companies, along with the Marsh Harbour Church. Elder Vernal Rolle Sr. delivered the sermon, entitled "God's Healing Touch". His message was timely, well received and certainly a blessing. The choir rendered several selections, giving the audience a foretaste of what was to come in the afternoon.

Word must have gotten out that the N.P. Sanctuary Choir was in town, because by 6:30 p.m. the church was filled with members and friends from the community. With matching T-shirts, clapping hands, stomping feet and lifted voices, the choir made their appearance on stage. The dynamic duo of Elders Vernal Rolle Sr. and Preston Johnson emceed the concert. They were superb, and added that down-home flair to the evening's performance. There were shouts for more of the same, and some willingly gave generous offerings to hear their favourite songs again. As all good things must come to an end, Pastor Moncur and Pastor Johnson gave the vote of thanks at about 9:00 p.m.

Reluctantly, early Sunday morning group members began to make their way back to the hustle and bustle of the city. Thanks to Pastor Moncur, the officers and members of the churches in Abaco, the weekend of April 12-14 will long be remembered by the members of the New Providence Sanctuary Choir.-Cherrise Rolle

Brand-new Baby Grand Piano Dedicated at Hillview  The Hillview SDA Church, pastor, officers and members who began a week of dedication anniversary celebrations on Sabbath, April 13, concluded this weekend with the dedication of a brand-new Baby Grand Piano. Former pastor and now Conference President Pastor K. D. Albury had been invited to share in the dedication of the Baby Grand Piano and to deliver the final sermon, which he did with clarity and anointing from the Holy Spirit. Recounting "the meaning of these stones," he drew timely illustrations from the book of Joshua.

On Friday, April 19, a special Vesper service was held to welcome the Sabbath. Members, officers and pastor gather as early as 7 o’clock to sing Sabbath songs and greet the Sabbath. It was a memory-making time. Former first elder Charles Miller, who was head elder at the dedication of the church 13 years ago, was invited to deliver the Vesper’s message. The time of introspection and reflection was refreshing. Elder Miller’s anecdotes made the walls of the church rang with laughter, yet he was adamant in reminding the church to hold on and to be faithful for very soon Jesus will come.

On Sunday, April 21, the final chapter in this year’s anniversary memory booklet came to a close, in a grand style gospel concert showcasing the myriad talents of the membership and emceed by current first elder, Roderick N. Sands. Seared into our memories for all time was the piano rendition by Sis. Audrey Wright, "How Great Thou Art". Oh, how my sister gave that Baby Grand Piano a full test drive. On behalf of the anniversary committee and Pastor M. A. Smith, special thanks are extended to all persons, various sub-committees, audio and video technicians, choirs, social committee, members and you, who came to share in the celebrations with us. To God be the glory, glorious things He has done with the past and present lively stones of Hillview.-Hillview PR Department
