of Jesus Campaign Ends
- After weeks of inspirational music and candid preaching of the Gospel
of Jesus Christ by Evangelist Glen Samuels, the Footprints of Jesus
Gospel Campaign came to an end with a grand concert on Sunday, April 25,
2004. To the delight of the audience, children and adult groups sang to
the honour and glory of God. Coupled with the Evangelist's final
message, the concert encouraged the new believers to maintain their
resolve to become members of the family of God.
The last Sabbath of the Campaign will always be
remembered by the more than two thousand persons in attendance. The Sabbath
School began with songs of praise to God which created a receptive
atmosphere for the presentation of the two informative Bible lessons that
followed. Pastor J. Duncombe gave the first lesson on "How to Keep the
Sabbath," and Pastor E. Clarke discussed "Church
Organization." Both new and old members were blessed and enlightened by
these presentations.
In his message during the Divine Service, Pastor Samuels
emphasized the need for God's people to have an abiding faith in God who
alone can help us deal with the things that separate us from Him. He pointed
out that God can do nothing for us unless we let Him. The bottom line is
that we have to decide the direction of our lives. He will not force us to
do anything that we do not want to do, but if we turn our lives over to Him,
He will see us through any situation.
Throughout the meetings the Holy Spirit worked on the
hearts of the hearers. He used the evangelist to teach the Word and appeal
to the people with conviction and power.
In response to the fervent appeals to those who wanted to
be free from the chains of sin, a total of 332 individuals were baptized
during the campaign. We give God the glory!
Welcome, my brothers and sisters, into the family of God.
He will continue to guide you into paths of righteousness. Hold on to His
Word and keep your eyes on Him. As you worship in the church of your choice
today, we believe that you will be received gladly. We who have been in the
church for many years must remember that these new-born babes need our care
and attention. We have to maintain contact with them and assist them in
their total development. At the same time, new members, you ought to stay
close to the church. Attend the services regularly, and study the Word of
God. Ask questions and learn as much as you can about your church. Enroll
your children in our school and in the Pathfinder Club. Purchase and read
the books that the church will recommend to assist in your personal and
spiritual growth. Do all you can to be what God wants you to be. May the
Lord bless and keep you.
Why I Believe in Adventist Education By
William G. Johnsson Noelene
and I have two children--a son and a daughter. Both obtained all their
education through the baccalaureate degree in Adventist schools.
I haven't tried to figure how much we shelled out over
the years, but it must be a tidy amount. Some Septembers we had to scrape to
put together the funds needed for registration. For a while we didn't have a
piano in the home, although Noelene trained in piano performance. We sold
the baby grand to help keep the kids in school.
We never thought of all this as a big deal, a sacrifice,
or whatever. For us it was simply a matter of priorities: we valued what
Adventist schools could offer our children. No doubt they could have
received as good or better academic preparation in public institutions, but
we wanted them to be exposed to the Christian option, and in particular the
Adventist Christian option.
That's still the chief reason why I believe in Adventist
education. I take very seriously this word from Ellen White: "Call no
man brilliant who has not the wisdom to choose the Lord Jesus Christ--the
light and life of the world. The excellence of a man is determined by his
possession of the virtues of Christ" (Counsels to Writers and Editors,
p. 175).
Our schools aren't perfect, but they have something that
the most prestigious secular institution cannot offer: teachers who love
Jesus and who seek to share Him with their students.
And there's a second reason why I believe in Adventist
education: I was part of it for 20 years. So was Noelene, for a shorter
time. Noelene taught at the elementary level. I taught high school (along
with working as dean of boys), then college, finally at the seminary.
We know firsthand the sort of people who give their lives
for Adventist education, in the classroom and in administration. We know
them, and with very few exceptions, we are proud of them.
We trusted our kids to them, and they served us well. We
are grateful for them. (This article was taken from the online edition of
Adventist Review 04/29/04)
