The
distant sound of school bells is getting louder and louder as
September 1 draws near. Shoes are shiny and new, blouses are crisp and
clean, and skirts are pleated and pressed- all in readiness for the first
day of school. Parents are ready; students are ready; and teachers are
ready to begin a brand-new school year after a refreshing summer
break. September is much like January--parents,
students and teachers get the chance to make new resolutions, set new
goals, and begin a new phase of life. The administrators and faculty of
Bahamas Academy are just as excited to begin another year. New teachers
have completed one week of orientation meetings, and returning teachers
have been at school for the past two weeks preparing their minds and
classrooms for the new classes they will have on Monday. We are happy to welcome the following new teachers to our school family:
In addition to these teachers, we are happy to welcome two support staff members:
We have some exciting plans on the drawing board this year which we will share with our elementary and secondary parents on Back-to-School Night, scheduled for September 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gym on Wulff Road. If you are a parent, you don't want to miss this meeting because we expect it will be fun as well as informative. Some of the exciting activities on the School Calendar are:
We also expect that our Parent-Teacher’s Association will be bigger and better this year, so we would implore all parents to make a resolution to attend as many PTA meetings as possible. Your involvement in your child's school life is vital to his success in school. We request your continued prayers for the administrators, faculty, staff and students of Bahamas Academy this year. God has been so good to us in spite of the many challenges. We continue to trust Him as He leads us to higher heights. -Lynn C. Smith, Principal Victory In Jesus Were you there? Did you hear about it? Committed and Connected was it. If you missed it, you missed the experience of a lifetime. They were young and old…and in between. The program featured youth from Adventist Churches all over the Bahamas Conference, all joining in to bring God's message in a creative way. The SDA Mega Ministries Mass Youth Choir was MEGA. There were the I-Witness report, Mr. Feelgood, Mr. Phil, Music Vibes,..and then there was Youth Director Burrows. There were some who had doubts, but after God showed up and replaced Pastor Burrows behind the pulpit, the doubts were erased. Yes, God was there. While the meetings featured many ways of presenting the Gospel, the messages of Jesus were at the centre. Practical lessons were projected and learned, Jesus was lifted up, and souls were won for the Kingdom of Heaven. Yes, eight (8) persons responded to the call of God and came forward to commit their lives to whatever He would have them do. One sermon in particular, about Samson, gave a fresh perspective on this well-known story. Pastor Burrows presented the message in such a way that everyone was able to see his own life in it. It highlighted how some of us like to live life on the edge, always going closer and closer to danger. Even so, God assists us time and time again and gives us avenues through which to escape. However, there comes a time when God allows us to reap the results of what we are playing with, and we find ourselves in a situation filled with hurt and regret. God wants us to obey Him so that we may live the abundant life, a life of joy and hope, a life in harmony with His will. It is for our own good and ultimately our salvation. The nightly messages were presented in such a way that they were appropriate to and appreciated by every age group, as they highlighted the similarities between the Biblical messages and events in our world - the events in The Bahamas - today. The effort to present Camp Meeting '03 was a wonderful opportunity that was shared with a team of those dedicated to the work of God. Thanks to the Berea Church members, the Camp Meeting Committee, the prayer team, the praise team, that team of consistent and professional ushers and greeters, the hosts, and the programme teams. I must express especial gratitude to Marcia Musgrove and Anthony Russell for their dedication and tireless commitment. Further thanks to the ever-present youth officers: Curtis Bryan, Ray Jennings and Elvardo Perpall. I encourage you who want to get involved to contact your youth leaders or the Youth Director. Pray and ask God how He would have you work for Him. Volunteer! There is plenty of work to do; and God's rewards are out of this world.-Audley Mitchell The Evangelist Is Here!
