Annual Service for Law Enforcement Officers and Civil Servants

Sir Clement T. Maynard, Deputy Governor General for The Bahamas

Dr. Leonard Johnson

Police Cadets

At 4:00 o’clock last Sabbath afternoon, February 17, 2007, an appreciative group of church members and invited guests gathered at the Grant’s Town Seventh-day Adventist Church, Wellington Street, Nassau, to participate in a thanksgiving service for the Adventist Law Enforcement Officers and Civil Servants.   See More Photos

As the Deputy Governor General, Sir Clement T. Maynard, and the platform participants were directed to their seats, this twelfth annual service of praise and thanksgiving sponsored by the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists started promptly.

After the host pastor, Andrew Burrows, and Pastor Eric D. Clarke, executive secretary of Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, extended welcome to all persons present, representatives of various Government agencies brought greetings and expressed appreciation to the Adventist Church for organizing this annual event. Also, in his remarks, Sir Clement Maynard commended the Adventists for their contribution to nation building and admonished the law enforcement officers and civil servants to continue to do their best in serving their country.

The main speaker for the occasion was Dr. Leonard A. Johnson, president of Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He used the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis to encourage the officers to be true to themselves, faithful and committed to God, their families and their country. He emphasized that because the life of Joseph was one of faith, trust and commitment, God’s plan for his life came to fruition. God has a plan for our lives, too; and like Joseph, if we recognize and accept God’s plan for our lives, even though others may hate us, we will not be deterred.

Dr. Johnson pointed out that the Devil, also, has a plan for our lives. He used Joseph’s brothers and Mrs. Potiphar to attempt to frustrate God’s plan for Joseph, but Joseph was faithful to God, and God was with him; so his dreams were fulfilled. As long as we keep in contact with God, we have nothing to fear, for He is on our side. He has promised never to leave us. Just as He was with Joseph, He will be with us.

The law enforcement officers and civil servants were urged not to be guided by situation ethics. Rather, they were admonished to choose the right and be prepared to “go down standing up” for what is right. God will work out His plan for us, if we let Him have His way.
