From the Office of The President

It  has been nearly a month since we launched the new term, having completed our second Quadrennial Conference session and Convention, and thus it is only fitting that I update you on a few matters of relevance to the operation of the Conference. Please take note of the areas that are of particular interest to you.

Chaplaincy Ministry

We continue to give emphasis to providing spiritual and emotional support to persons in various institutions in our country through our Chaplaincy Ministry. This ministry of the Conference is coordinated by Pastor Barrington Brennen, and it is our aim to provide a sustained and consistent ministry to persons in the hospitals, prison, rehabilitative institutions and, of course, our school, Bahamas Academy. Persons serving as chaplains include pastors Leroy Sewell, Valentino Campbell, Fritz Gerald Francois, Gary King (as of July 1) and Anastacia Ferguson.

Church Officers’ Banquet

At the conclusion of our Mid-Year Convention, which will feature 3 ABN personnel in a live broadcast from the Bahamas, we will host a banquet to recognize and award the first in a series of church officers who have served for forty years and more. In this regard names of such persons are to be turned over to your pastor. To ensure that no one is overlooked, it is anticipated that each church will appoint a committee consisting of mature members who will scrutinize the names submitted and identify the relevant persons. At the Conference level a committee has been appointed to make certain that we do justice in seeking to honor those on the initial list that will be submitted.

Offices and Secretaries

Following the recent Conference Session, changes regarding office and secretarial assignments have been made and are therefore listed for your information. Public Affairs and Religious Liberty          The Religious Liberty department was first organized in 1901.  Today it is known as PARL (Public Affairs and Religious Liberty).   Its main objective is to support religious Liberty locally and internationally as one of the fundamental principles of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and as a God given right.

PARL also initiates and maintains open communication with religious leaders and government officials to strengthen understanding and broaden knowledge about the Church's beliefs and principles.   To this end we support other organizations that champion religious freedom and give promotion to the International Religious Liberty Association (IRLA).

To this end today we seek to engage each member in building momentum for the consideration of the government of a proposed WORKPLACE Religious Freedom Act. The act when considered will prevent discrimination and/or termination of employment because of your faith and religious practices (i.e. Sabbath observance, alternate days for exams other that the Sabbath) we need you to sign the petition today.  Listen to details during the Divine Worship service today.  -Paul A. Scavella, PARL
