Reflecting on the First Month of 2004
Isn’t it amazing that the first month of 2004 is just about gone! Amazing indeed are the reports coming from throughout our conference of an exciting and focused 30 days of revival, reaping and promotions.

Convention 2004 Except for some minor disappointments, it is gratifying to hear some of you talk about the blessings received and the spiritual lift experienced at Convention 2004. I was again blessed by Praise Reunion 3 on TV 13 this past Sunday - kudos to Harold Dorsett and team. We await Praise Reunion 4 scheduled for Mid-year Convention, June 30 - July 4. Convention 2004 continues throughout the Family of islands. Reports indicate a grand time of praise and fellowship in San Salvador, North Andros and in South Andros. Today, departmental directors are in Long Island, Exuma and Cat Island, and will travel to Crooked Island and Inagua on Wednesday.

Reaping God's Harvest  Already for the year over 20 persons have been baptized. Hats off to those pastors and members who got off to an on-time-start. Others are in the wings such as Pastors Paul Scavella and John Carey, conducting The Path to Health Gospel crusade on Parkgate Road. Today, Pastor Peter Joseph and the members of New Providence and Real Harvest climax their special "Six Days of Praise Revival" in preparation for Real Harvest Outreach II., and in south New Providence, Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe and members of Breath of Life prepare to launch a mega-tent outreach on Marshall Road tomorrow evening. Still, there are more efforts to report throughout the conference. Our major outreach for the first quarter is "The Footprints of Jesus Crusade," with Evangelist Glen Samuels, to be launched March 20. Is it any wonder 2004 is dubbed the year of reaping God's Harvest? I remind you that our soul goal is a minimum of 1104 in 2004. "With God all things are possible".

Notes of Sympathy and Praise  Condolences go out to those of you who lost loved ones. We at Headquarters mourn with you on the passing of your young child, mother, husband, father, son, sister, daughter or cousin. Be assured of our continued prayers. We also rejoice with you who were recently promoted, passed special exams, got married and those welcoming additional members to the family. Truly, God is good to his people! I wish to implore all members to be ambassadors of peace and good-will for each day we are afforded opportunities to "so let our light shine" and also to help one another. Shortly, we will share some exciting news designed to expose you to all the various business/service offerings via your brothers and sisters within the Church.

Youth Matters  Again, I applaud the youth of our Conference for their initiative on Sunday at Berea where they launched Listen-up Ministries. While the TV program Listen Up has been airing for nearly 8 years (the longest youth television program on ZNSTV 13) Marcia Musgrove and team, under Youth Director Andrew Burrows, seek now to take Listen-up to a new level dubbed from "On Screen to On the Scene". Now this does not mean the end of the TV program but an addition which features trained young people in witnessing activities. You would also be pleased to know that our young people, via this initiative, have pledged 100 baptisms for 2004. Pray much for these talented and gifted members of our church. Also, I wish to inform you that they have been challenged to produce skits addressing youth issues. These will be hosted at The National Center for Performing Arts or the like providing wholesome fun and activities for their peers and all who may be searching for good Christian outings, especially on Saturday evenings. Listen up for their first production.

Visit of 3ABN CEO  Weren't we blessed with the exciting stories of Danny at the joint 3ABN Praise and Prayer service at Hillview! Our visit with the management of Cable Bahamas was a promising one. The company is willing to include the 3ABN channel in the basic package for all islands where there is cable, though an exact time was not provided. We await word regarding this. I would encourage you to write, or e-mail Cable Bahamas requesting 3ABN in your island.

The visit of 3ABN CEO could augur well for Bahamas Academy and Grand Bahama Academy. Danny assured Pastor Albury and me that he will have us visit 3ABN soon for an interview and will appeal via this means for funds to assist with the rebuilding of BA and the expansion of GBA. Locally, your contribution of a minimum of $100 will also lend to the realization of this objective. You need not wait until Mid-year Convention; just mark BA on your tithe envelope, or request a special envelope.   Finally, I urge that you daily seek God's wisdom and favor for yourselves and for your leaders. - The President

Family Island Convention  Pastors Eric Clarke and Barrington Brennen took convention 2004 to the South Andros District last weekend. Under the theme "United in Warmth of Fellowship," members of the South Andros Seventh-day Adventist Churches gathered at the New Kemp's Bay Church on Friday night for the opening service. Pastor Brennen inspired the believers with a wonderful message on "A Heart Full of Grace." This inspirational weekend concluded on Sabbath with a powerful message entitled "We Still Believe" by the Executive Secretary of the Bahamas Conference, Pastor Eric Clarke. During the entire weekend the members and visitors were challenged to examine their relationships with one another and with Christ. They were inspired by the soul-stirring music rendered by local church groups.

Education Corner   Bahamas Academy was pleased and thrilled to have a very special guest on our campus this past week. Danny Shelton, President and Speaker of 3ABN, visited our campus on Thursday, January 22, 2004, along with our Conference Administrators. These distinguished gentlemen paid a "courtesy call" on the Principal and two Vice-Principals and got to visit with students and teachers.

The visit was supposed to have taken place early that morning, but the group was delayed at Cable Bahamas. By the time they arrived on campus, it was lunch time. I cannot begin to describe the events that unfolded on campus at lunch time as Mr. Shelton was taken on a tour of the campus by the Principal and Vice-Principals.

Picture this: Students at the Secondary Division (who are usually not swayed by visitors on the campus) left their lunches to walk over to the group, calling Mr. Shelton by name, waiting to talk with him, and asking him to sign autographs. Of course, when they spotted Mr. Rahming with a camera, everyone wanted a picture with Danny Shelton (pictures of the day's visit can be seen by visiting the school's website: www.tagnet.org/bahamasacademy

When Mr. Shelton walked onto the basketball court and asked for one of the boys to hand him the basketball, you would have thought that Michael Jordan had stepped onto the court! Students ran from all directions to watch the basketball skills of this famous TV personality. As Danny stood at the free throw line, he threw the ball, and what do you know . . . . it went in, not once, not twice, but three times! The students roared and clapped for their new-found hero. Danny proceeded to stand on his hands on the court, much to the delight of the watching students!

As if that weren't enough, as our group neared the Elementary Division, the younger children came out of nowhere, flocking Danny and saying, "look, that's the man from 3ABN". They tried to hug him, hold his hand, and tug at his jacket. It became almost impossible for us to continue walking--it was like trying to manoeuver through the crowds on Bay Street on December 26th. Eventually we reached the Elementary where he met cafeteria staff, teachers, and students. This was indeed an unforgettable day in the life of our students and I'm sure they had many stories to tell when they got home. Danny has promised to show the pictures on 3ABN very soon.

We thank the Conference Administrators for remembering to include us in the short itinerary of this personable Adventist as he visited the island of New Providence. We feel that it was a very profitable visit.

NEWS FLASH!!!! We say congratulations to the debating team for winning the debate last Friday. There are three more debates. Pray for our team.

Urgent Family Ministries Meeting  All Family Ministries Directors and assistants, professional and lay counselors/psychologists, school counselors, social workers, please meet with Pastors B. Brennen and M. A. Smith tomorrow, February 1, at 5:00 p.m. at the New Englerston Church.

Health Ministries  Path to Total Health Series.  Under the leadership of Pastor Paul Scavella and Dr. John Carey, the Health Crusade Team has been proclaiming the Gospel. The campaign is expected to culminate with a baptism today when the concluding message, Which Church Would Jesus Join If He Were to Come to Nassau Today, is presented.

Correlating the Health Message with spiritual principles was exciting for the hearers. For example, breathing was related to prayer as the breath of the soul. Just as we need to breathe deeply so air can reach the lower air sacs of the lungs, likewise we need to pray intensely on a very personal level to get deep with God.

Among the most memorable lectures are "Child Abuse," by Dr. Broomfield; "Prostate Cancer," by Dr. Joseph Evans; and "Hydrotherapy," by Bernadette Rolle. Special thanks are extended to all other presenters who did a marvelous job. We say a sincere "thank you" to the Philadelphia, Parkgate and Living Faith Churches for their support during the campaign.

Come and bring a liberal offering to assist the cause of Health Ministries in the Conference. Special music will be provided by Vanessa Rolle.
