Twenty-six Days Into the New Year!

After only 26 days into 2008, I would imagine that the inspiration emanating from the messages, music and fellowship of Convention 2008 continues to resonate, ringing out in our minds. Many of you expressed your pleasure regarding the meetings, and for this my administrative colleagues and I are grateful and give all the praise to God for His leading and blessings. Last weekend, the Family Islands Conventions were completed. The reports coming from these are also encouraging. Thanks to those lay brethren who accompanied our pastors and directors. Our brethren just love the spirit of convention.

Twenty-six days into the New Year begs an answer to the question, “Have I been faithful to the resolutions and pledges made?” Let me assure you, that it is still possible to get going with that exercise program, educational pursuit and commitment to God and His cause. In fact, many of us pledged to give to the ongoing construction of the New Bahamas Academy. Please accept this note as a friendly reminder to commence or continue giving your financial contribution; for it is much needed if the objective of completion is to be realized.

Thanks to those of you who have already given and continue to contribute to this needed project. I never cease to be amazed by your faithfulness! Thus far, I have visited three of our churches promoting the need for 3000 partners to contribute $1000 each, and the Dollar-a Day drive which simply calls for members and our children to give at least $7 each Sabbath toward the project. If this is done, it will greatly assist with the weekly construction expenses of the school. Kudos to those churches that participated last year. I single out the members of the Centreville Church who gave in excess of twelve thousand dollars and have pledged to continue this year seeking to reach twenty thousand dollars. Also, I applaud the tremendous response from the staff of Bahamas Academy who gave $20,000. While communicating with a teacher during the week, I was informed that one class has collected nearly $700 for the year. Plan to do your part now! And at Mid-year Convention, commencing on June 25, I will call upon you to submit your gifts that were not turned in.

Less than 26 days into the New Year, four pastors in our Conference have launched Family Island outreach efforts in Exuma, Cat Island, San Salvador and South Andros, respectively. Continue to pray for these meetings and the persons God is using to ensure their success.

By now it should have occurred to you that 26 days into the year God has truly blessed our conference. Publicly, we were given two opportunities to communicate the gospel nation wide through a service for parliamentarians and a state funeral for the late Dr. Curtis McMillan. Both services were televised live. I pray that more persons have become sensitized to the Adventist Faith and that the evidence of this will be seen and felt as the Nassau mega campaigns are launched next month!

Again, I thank you for the support you have given to all of the Conference’s initiatives!

May God continue to bless you.  Have a Happy Sabbath! - Pastor Leonard A. Johnson
