Almost all the churches in Nassau had participants who were eager to learn and prepare themselves for service in Christ’s vineyard. Sabbath afternoon at 4 o’clock saw these students coming with note pads and pens, ready to gain insights into what it meant to be a lay worker and in some small way impact others about the love of God and the need to be ready for His soon return. The mini lectures and discussions became enthusiastic at times but always informative. We were introduced to methods for soul winning, finding and reaching receptive people, the crusade budget, its cycle, establishing new converts and sermon preparation. These sessions were short, current, and most of all relevant. The presenters were: Doctors M. D. Toote, Personal Ministries Director, L. A. Johnson Executive Secretary, and Pastors Michael A. Smith, Wilfred T. Adderley, Andrew. Burrows, Leo C. Rolle and Edward St. Fleur. The Program involved theory as well as practice, a two pronged approach that saw some persons putting into practice what they were learning. The final assignment was a five minute written sermon. Some of us were so "current" that we were still writing ours up to the graduation service. Some persons receive the first certificate for completing the theory segment of the training program. Upon the completion of their participation in an actual field activity (a branch Sabbath School, a Cottage Meeting, or Laymen’s Crusade). To this end the majority of the lay evangelists aspire. The course was timely and most beneficial to us and we thank our pastors who joined hands with the laity in order to strengthen the work of the gospel in our local field. May God bless all of our efforts to this end. -Belva D. Zonicle Beginning July 28, 2002, the youth ministries department, under

"V.I.P." Visits Abaco June 28 to 30, 2002, was a weekend like no other as 22 members of "Voices In Praise" from the New Providence SDA Church, along with chaperones Vernita Kelly and Bro and Sister Vernal Rolle, Sr. Touched down in Abaco. They had heard the call and were now following in the footsteps of the members of the Sanctuary Choir who had broken ground just a few weeks earlier. On that Friday, the majority of the group took the ferry to visit beautiful Hope Town with its historic lighthouse. It was truly a homecoming for Bro. Rolle (a former Lighthouse Keeper) and his family who were now returning for a visit after 30 years. Wherever he walked in the settlement, old friendships were rekindled. The remainder of the team who had stayed behind in order to prepare for Sabbath, had already fallen in love with ‘Regattas’ the newly furbished all-inclusive time-sharing complex, where they were to stay. That Friday night all roads led to St. Andrew’s Baptist Church on "Fire Road" just outside of Coopers Town, some 40 plus miles away. It was a blessing to have a reliable bus and driver for the duration of our stay. The entire Program was turned over to Voices In Praise by Pastor Eulin McIntosh, who along with his packed church had come to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The spirited local renditions were well-seasoned by our fired-up choir. Brother Rolle and his son, Roderick proved to be a dynamic duo as masters of ceremony. Despite the humidity, Sabbath School at the Marsh Harbour Church was a buzz as brother Terry Tannis and other members of the group led out. Pastor Roger Moncur, fresh from his missionary journey to Africa, took us higher with a spirit-filled message, which was followed by a banquet-styled lunch in the church’s wing. There was indeed more than enough food for all. Sabbath afternoon Voices In Praise was again showcased in a concert. Special to all was the fact that members of the local congregation and visitors alike were inspired and blessed. Members of the group were also being touched. This celebration lasted late into the evening and once again, like the night before, a special offering was collected on behalf of the group’s ministry. Sunday, marked the return to Nassau and for many, if not all, parting with this jewel of an island and its beautiful people was not easy to do. Persons like Gentry Morris and Basil Been whose jobs have taken them there, were encouraged to continue blazing the trail for the Lord. Thanks to Freeman Rolle, Marco Culmer and Tammy Miller, the group’s leaders for organizing the trip. All thanks and praise to God for He has done marvelously.- R. Rolle, member V.I.P.
