Camp Meeting is here. If you haven’t prepared yourself, hold on tight. This is no time to come halfway. This one will knock your socks off. Really. The speaker for Camp Meeting 2002 is Pastor Pete Palmer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, one of the best young preachers in North America…and he is here. To help set the spiritual tone and to help promote this event, there were outdoor programmes on three public parks last Sabbath. These parks are People’s Park in Flamingo Gardens, Fr. Marshall Cooper Park, Mason’s Addition and Fox Hill Parade, Fox Hill. Each site featured a mini-concert, testimony service, the distribution of free bread, also blood glucose and pressure screening. These events started the ball rolling, helping to put us in the missionary frame of mind. Many of the residents of the various areas invited the visiting teams to come back and make a regular contribution to the areas. Maybe this is a message for us to go out more to take the message where the people are. There are so many other achievements that we can mention. For the seventh year in a row, our Pathfinders were the largest and most disciplined group on the National Youth March. Accompanied by the electrifying Pathfinder Band, the most celebrated youth ban in this country, over one thousand pathfinders were on parade. Listen Up! is a premier youth programme promoting Christian values and building young citizens for God’s kingdom. But what about YOU? Are you prepared to work for God? Are you qualified? Are you trained? Are you SAVED? At last year’s youth revival, Pastor Braham issued a challenge to us. He challenged each member of the church to learn the doctrines and have at least two texts to support each doctrine. If we are members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, we should be able to prove it. This afternoon, at 6:00 pm, there will be a grand rally at the Hillview Church. Don’t miss this preview of good music and spiritual elevation. Contact your youth leader and ask how you can participate in the program. There is room for many volunteers. So invite a friend and come out to this spiritual feast, from July 28 – August 4, 2002, every night beginning at 7:15 at the Hillview Church. The opening message is entitled, What Difference Does A River Make? Come and hear Pastor Pete preach the plain truth. Experience youth choirs singing the melodious sounds of heavenly tunes; be blessed by the fellowship of young and old united in the common cause of Almighty God. Don’t miss any of this. Come one, come all. Come young and old, hot and cold. Souls will be revived and saved. Make sure that yours is one of them! God has a message for you. You cannot afford to miss this. Sunday night service will be aired over ZNS #1 from 7:30 to 8:30.
Pray for Dr. Ben Carson By now many of you know that Dr. Ben Carson has a high grade of prostate cancer. Although the knowledge is devastating, we still know that our God has a purpose in all things. God was here before even the earth was, and He has an understanding that is way beyond us. We feel that He will continue to use Ben to help others reach a more meaningful life. When you hear a person dedicated to serving God is stricken with a serious illness, it causes one to stop and reflect, not only on matters that are important in this life, but in spiritual matters, in particular one's relation to God and how that may affect one's life in the hereafter. We have witnessed this reaction in some of the lives he's touched already. Although the physicians expect that the surgery scheduled for early August will eradicate the entire problem and leave Ben with at least ten more years (and we have been praising the Lord for that, let me tell you!) we are praying for complete recovery prior to that so that surgery will not be necessary. Read below the Official News Release from Columbia Union Conference Office
of Communication For Immediate Release Columbia Union Conference Office of Communication Update on Dr. Ben Carson Baltimore, MD -- Ben Carson's office today confirmed that he is alive and maintaining a full office and surgical schedule. Dr. Carson will continue working until early August when he will take a medical leave to have prostate cancer surgery. "Ben, Candy, and the kids were in church on Sabbath and were in high spirits," said Jerry Lutz, senior pastor of the Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. "He is in no pain and continues his schedule and ministry at the church, where he teaches a Sabbath School class and is an elder." The family expressed appreciation for the calls, e-mails, cards, and concerns and asked that we keep them in prayer. The church asks that Adventists be considerate of the family's need for privacy and Dr. Carson's need to conduct business with patients at his office. Because Dr. Carson is a beloved member of the Seventh-day Adventist family, the Spencerville Church will share future news and updates via its Web site: www.spencervillesda.org. Please feel free to forward this information, but do not alter it.
