Christian Soldiers Have Fallen
- Just last week the leaders of our Conference
and a significant segment of our membership attended the funeral of
Brother Chris Symmonett, an outstanding layman who gave invaluable service
to his home church and to the Conference in general. And again, this week
we are mourning the death of two more Christian soldiers, Sister Mary Jane
Moncur and Brother Albert Clarke, Sr. Mother Mary, as she is
affectionately called, was 105 years old when she passed away last Friday
evening at her daughter's residence in Nassau. God blessed her with a very
long and productive life, and those who were present when she died
recognized that God granted her wish to die at the beginning of the
Sabbath. Elder Albert Clarke, Sr. died last Sunday, June 27, at a Florida
hospital at the age of 79 years. These two saints worked hard and long in
their respective districts to get the message of salvation out so that
souls might come into the kingdom of God. They were exemplary laymen who
were actively involved in the work of the church and consistently reached
out to the community.
Sister Moncur could be named among the pioneers of Adventism in Cat
Island. In spite of vigorous opposition from her husband whom she loved
dearly and the members of the church that they attended, she was baptized in
1940 as a member of the unpopular Seventh-day Adventist Church. It took a
person with conviction and stamina to make this kind of decision. Mother
Mary was not afraid to stand up for what she believed and what she felt was
right. Through the years she has been a strong tower to her family and a
blessing to many others. Her ability to deal with adversity and manage
stressful situations was admired by her relatives and friends. Her words of
wisdom and winning smile will certainly be missed by everyone who knew her.
Although Brother Clarke appeared to be quiet, he was committed to his God
and his family. His commitment to God was demonstrated in his service to the
Church and the community. For many years the doors of the churches in Exuma
were kept open under the leadership of Elder Albert Clarke, Sr. At times he
had to serve as deacon and preacher, but he never allowed those kinds of
challenges to discourage him. He kept on taking care of God's business; for
he knew the benefits of putting God first. Supported by his loving wife and
the small band of believers, he accepted the mantle of local elder year
after year. Even when he did not get a positive response from his request to
the Confeence for assistance for a church project, he carried on. We at
headquarters as well as the members in his district will miss his steady
leadership.
As we reflect on the contributions that Elder Clarke and Sister Moncur
made to their respective local church and to the Conference, we have to
pause to say "To God be the glory." We are grateful that their
lives have touched so many in a positive way. They are now asleep in
Jesus and are awaiting the glorious appearing of our Lord and Savior.
Therefore, we can say with assurance, "Precious in the sight of the
Lord is the death of his saints" (Psalm 116:15).
On behalf of the entire membership of the Bahamas Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists, Dr. Leonard A. Johnson and his colleagues in
administration extend deepest sympathy and best wishes to the Clarke and
Moncur families. It is our prayer that the sympathizing Jesus will comfort
and support them at this time of grief.

South Andros Revived On Sunday,
June 13, the Victory In Jesus Revival machinery stopped into the Driggs Hill
community with Evangelist Amos Flowers on the bridge and Evangelist Howard
Barr as engineer. The forces peeked for the second week as our president, Dr.
Leonard A. Johnson took the helm.
After nights of powerful, inspirational and refreshing proclamations the
Holy Spirit revealed God’s pleasure by not just reviving the Adventist
community but by conducting seven precious souls into the waters of baptism
and into the care of the Blessed Hope SDA Church.
The home visitations and moments of fellowship were all very well received.
The officers and members of the Blessed Hope Church extend appreciation to the
Bahamas Conference for this shot-in-the-arm. The church eagerly awaits the
next such gesture. -H. Barr
