From The Office of The President
Today we complete an exciting lesson study based on the book of Mark for seniors. Inarguably it has been an informative and inspirational study. Equally inspirational were the studies for all levels.

Off To General Conference Based on reports received at Headquarters it is likely that 1000 persons from the Bahamas will travel to St. Louis, Missouri for the 58th session of the world church. It is going to be a time of fellowship, sharing and inspiration. For those of you who are unable to attend these meetings, you may watch some of the daily proceedings on 3ABN or the Hope TV network. You would want to remember our Meistersingers will sing on Monday, July 4th at 9:33 a.m., and they do a mini concert at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, Pastor Glen Samuels, ministerial Director of West Indies Union, will speak during the devotion, at 8:00 a.m., on Friday, July 1. Be sure to tune in. To ensure that Conference matters are attended to, Dr. John Carey will serve as acting president, and Cherisse Rahming will function as Treasurer for the next two weeks.

Board and Conference Decisions The School Board and Conference Committee voted to reassign the current principal and vice principal to the office of Registrar and Senior Mistress respectively to take effect as of the new school year. In the interim, Dr. Cheryl Rolle, Education Director, will fill the position of principal while a Search Committee appointed by the School Board and Conference Committee will interview candidates for the positions of principal and vice principal for both divisions. Qualified persons from within the Adventist Education system and without may apply for these positions. Applications will be available at the Conference Headquarters and Bahamas Academy as of Monday, June 27, 2005. Your prayers are solicited for the Search Committee charged with the awesome responsibility of interviewing and recommending leaders for Bahamas Academy. Both the School Board and Conference Committee express appreciation to Mrs. Lyn Smith and Mrs. Celeste Creighton for their dedication and commitment to service in leading the Academy for the past three years.

Update on BA School Building Latest reports indicate that some sections of the secondary building are nearing foundation/floor level completion. You would want see what is happening. There are definite signs of progress. Again I ask that you support the building program with your presence and weekly or monthly financial contributions. To complete the secondary phase within two years requires our faithful and consistent financial support. Be assured that your support, small or otherwise, when placed with the others, will ensure no let up in the construction. Remember to mark your envelope BA Construction. Also, we continue to say thanks to Bro. Winston Ash, Cecil Cartwright, Henry Moncur, Elvardo Perpal, Andrew Hanna and others for their sacrificial help in this project.

Summer Activities On Monday, Jeff Rogers launches his annual Basketball Camp. At the same time, our church basketball season continues on selective nights during the week at BA gym. Later we will welcome the annual summer Youth Camp meetings. Also, we look forward to the outdoor camping which will be held in North Andros. Additionally, numerous vacation Bible schools will be conducted by the various churches throughout the Conference. Let us do all we can to contribute to the success of these programs. Have a Happy Sabbath!

Fathers Recognized During Father’s Day Weekend Over the years it has been observed that the week before Mother’s Day the streets of the city of Nassau are lined with tents and stalls with all kinds of gifts for mothers, but when Father’s Day comes around all that can be seen along the streets are stalls selling crabs. Then on Mother’s Day, the mothers are showered with gifts and everybody sing their praises, but hardly anyone notices when Father’s Day comes around. However, in recent times, things have been different. Yes, we still see stalls with just crabs along the streets, nevertheless, more attention is being given to fathers on their special day.
We have to admit that in spite of the waywardness of some fathers, there are some good, God fearing, caring fathers among us. These fathers should be commended for their exemplary lifestyle. Too long have we followed the tendency to generalize and blame all fathers for the failures of some of them. On the other hand, no matter how many mothers have fallen short of the mark of motherhood, we tend to overlook them and praise mothers for their faithfulness. It is refreshing to see that we are now attempting to balance our treatment of fathers and mothers. While we should continue to praise our mothers, we need to give more encouragement to those fathers who are demonstrating their commitment to God and who are fulfilling their role.
During this past Father’s Day weekend, many of the churches in the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists planned special treats and activities for our fathers. The following are reports from just three of the churches on the Island of New Providence.

Philadelphia According to Stephen Barnett, communication secretary at Philadelphia, Father’s Day at the Philadelphia Church was extra-ordinary. The Sabbath School programme was punctuated with tributes in the form of “special poems” about fathers. The inspirational message for the Divine Service was not given traditionally by the Pastor of the Church, but by a spiritually motivated woman of God, Sister Ruth McKinney, wife of our own Dr. Silas N. McKinney, retired former president of Bahamas Conference and West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. She spoke on the topic, “A Father’s Legacy.” Reference was made to Bible characters such as Job (the only perfect father mentioned in the Bible) and David, a man after God’s own heart. She expounded on the following characteristics that fathers who take their responsibilities seriously should exemplify as legacies for their children: Kindness, Industriousness, friendliness, Patience, Politeness, Humility, Integrity and Honesty, Chastity and Purity, and Righteousness.
This spiritually enriching service culminated with a luncheon in honour of the fathers. The church gave gifts to the fathers who were very appreciative and felt fully blessed.

Maranatha Under the theme “The King’s Court, Our Father’s Day Celebration,” the fathers of Maranatha received the “Royal Treatment” as Father’s Day Weekend was celebrated in the King’s Court, June 18 and 19, 2005. Led by the Royal Readers and Trumpeters, who heralded the Royal Proclamation of Father’s Day, the kings were escorted to their seats in a Royal Procession by an honour guard of the youth. The imperial youth and children’s choirs of the court, along with the melodious singing of Sisters Dedrie Hanna and Vanessa Rolle, guest artists, provided special music. This aspect of the programme would not have been complete unless our kings were serenaded and blessed by the singing of the Empress Choir, the ladies of Maranatha. Special recognition was given to the following fathers: The Oldest Father- Arthur Leon Roach, Sr., 95 years of age; Father With The Most Children-Bro. Cecil Cartwright I; Most Recent Father- Tedwin Dorsett; The Youngest Father-Dario Rahming, 20 years of age. Selected as “The Most Supportive Fathers” were Erskine Oliver, George Wells, Ray Strachan, Egbert Blackmore and Eric Clarke. “The Mother of the Year,” Greta Kemp, crowned Delano Hamilton “The Father Of Year.” Pastor/King E. D. Clarke brought the message of the day. He reminded us that in this world where men are constantly bashed, our father’s deserve much praise, and that wives and children must let them know how much they love them. The weekend culminated with lots of laughter and fun as the kings were feted to a Royal Feast, at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, at the Royal Palace’s Fellowship Hall of the Maranatha Church. –Adelma Penn

Breath of Life The Breath of Life Church went all out to recognize and show appreciation for fathers during the Father’s Day Weekend. Pastored by the innovative, former administrator and model father of five grown children, Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe, the church “where every breath glorifies God” started the celebrations with a well attended Father’s Day service on Sabbath. From Sabbath School to Adventist Youth time, activities were geared to show fathers how much they were appreciated. Two prominent fathers from the community, Sir Clement Maynard and Mr. Hubert Wong were in attendance and were recognized. In addition to the activities that attracted a full church on Sabbath, a Father’s Day Fun Run/Walk was sponsored by the Breath of Life Church on Sunday, June 19. Beginning at 7: 00 a.m., the participants ran/walked from the Breath of Life Church to the Golden Gates Shopping Center Parking Lot and back to the church. While the walkers were congratulated for participating in the exercise, special attention was given to the father and son teams of runners. The fathers did the first half of the race, and the sons completed. In order to participate in the race, some of the men adopted a son for the day.
Generous awards were given to the father and son teams that completed the race. Dr. Leonard Johnson, president of the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, presented the awards that were donated by various local businesses.
We must commend Pastor Duncombe, coordinator of the weekend programme, and the Breath of Life Church for organizing these positive activities that brought fathers and sons and families together. –Communication Dept.
