The Lay training program explores 21st century evangelism strategies founded on Biblical principles. Comprised of two modules over a two-month period, the course offers timely instruction for all persons interested in upgrading and equipping themselves for ministry in the local church. Commissioned by our Lord to proclaim the everlasting Gospel to every kindred, tongue and people, the Church has a sacred trust to achieve this divine objective through training of the laity on an ongoing basis. Accordingly, principles uncovered in the program will identify and affirm the giftedness and call to service of every believer, thus counteracting one of Satan's most effective deceptions --that soul-winning and evangelism are the work of the pastor alone. Additionally, the principles of discipleship receive much
treatment throughout the instructional segment in keeping with Matthew 28:19-20,
which sets forth teaching, preaching and baptizing as Attention throughout the course we will also focus on matters such as role clarification in the congregation, spirituality of the individual, Bible study techniques, public campaigns, and how to reach receptive people. Pastors and churches are encouraged to embrace this opportunity for training of the laity which will inevitably result in our churches growing both quantitatively and qualitatively. Accordingly, E.G. White writes, "Every follower of Jesus has a work to do as a missionary for Christ when he or she lives." Counsels on Stewardship, p. 18. Churches are asked to supply the following minimum quota: Grant’s Town, Hillview, Centreville (12); New Providence, Maranatha, Johnson Park (10); Good News, Living Faith, Berea (7); Bethel, Francophone, Ebenezer, Ephesus, Philadelphia, Bethany, New Englerston, Breath of Life (5). Let us endeavour to train for service, then return to share our faith with others, singly, or in groups, privately or by public campaigns. By our lifestyle, let us truly become Disciples of Christ. - Dr. M.D. Toote, Director
Centreville’s Women’s Retreat
Excitement filled the air as the women of Centreville Our Sabbath programme was saturated with multiple blessings as Sister Barbara Carey explained that we could not know God if we do not study His Word, which gives us a closer glimpse about Him. We were encouraged to get to know Him through His Word. Sis. Ann Albury expounded on the concept of God being everywhere, knowing everything, and being able to do anything. This assurance of God’s protection for us elevated the trust and faith that are necessary to foster a deeper walk with God. We were all comforted in the fact that because we are God’s children He will fulfill His promises to each of us as we claim them. There were many dynamic speakers, who delivered powerful, spirit-filled messages as the weekend commenced. Our women were blessed as they were ministered to by a group of sisters who had strong experiences that at times moved them to tears as they were shared. Terri R. Dames spoke on "The Art of Mentoring." The women were encouraged to be good examples because they are the main ingredient that God is using to make a difference. Sis. Denise Johnson shared her experiences dealing with Peace, Healing and Forgiveness. She admonished us to let God direct us as we learn how to deal with the anger in our lives. When that is done, true healing takes place and our lives are enriched by it. Sis. Monique Mitchell revealed a number of health issues that affect women. We were admonished to take care of ourselves so that our service to God will be at the highest level. Sis. Elaine Sands revealed a number of pertinent facts that were eye openers for many of us. We were truly astonished and I know that all the ladies are determined to do their part to make our country a better place. On the closing morning of the retreat, the level of excitement had doubled or tripled. It really cannot be measured accurately. Sis. Ann tearfully shared her personal experiences with us. We then realized that God gives us our experiences so that others can benefit from them. It is not about us; it is for a witness to others. Sis. Pansy Hamilton-Brown gave us some powerful and motivating advice, which would keep us motivated for the journey of life. We were told to PUSH Until Something Happens. Sis. Alwhyne Scavella closed our first annual retreat with a charge to love God, continue to work for God, study His Word, pray unceasingly, so that at the end of the journey, you can say that you have fought a good fight, you stayed on Course, and guarded the Faith. Hats off to Sister Lillian Rolle and her associates for a well-organized and spirit-filled weekend. Your sisters were truly blessed!-T. Dames Camp Meeting Mid-year Convention
