May Highlights From the President’s Offices

With just a few days before the beginning of June , I greet you in the name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. As we praise Him for the blessings we have already received, we continue to look to Him who is the source of our strength. Once again it is my privilege to highlight some of the activities that transpired in our conference during this month.

Youth Involvement and Accomplishments Commencing with the National Youth March on May 1, our young people were engaged in several positive activities during this month. Nearly one thousand (1,000) energetic, uniformed Pathfinders and Master Guides from the various Adventist churches in Nassau participated in the march. As usual, they stood out as examples of positive, disciplined Bahamian youth. We appreciate the contributions the local youth leaders and the Conference Youth director are making toward the development of our young people.

Then there were the honors convocations of Bahamas Academy. Again, it was a proud moment to see so many of our sons and daughters being awarded for excellence in various disciplines. The theme for the Elementary Division's Honors Convocation, "My Best And Nothing Less Will Do," was reflected in the performance of the students. About one hundred and eighty (180) students were listed on the Principal's List and the Honour Roll. Although more details are given elsewhere in the Logos about the achievements of two students, a special note of commendation must be given to Pharez Rolle, a twelfth grade student of the Secondary Division, who during a ceremony at Government House received an award for maintaing the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 for the last three years. Also, hats off to young Kevin Rolle, a sixth grade student of BA Elementary, for placing second in the Primary Schools Student of the Year Award. The parents of these students as well as the administration and staff of the Academy ought to be congratulated for their part in these boys' achievements. We need to do more to highlight the successes in our schools.

Construction of Bahamas Academy The month of May will also be remembered as the time when we commenced construction on the new Bahamas Academy on Marshall Road. Now that the trenching for the footing has been completed, the steel is on the site, the batter boards have been erected, and the points reset, the footing is likely to be poured within a few days. To God be the glory! Let me emphasize that construction has just started, so we request that you make a commitment to continue to give assistance as needed.

Adventist Men of Kencot I wish to salute the Adventist Men of Kencot Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kingston, Jamaica, who blessed our conference in a meaningful way with their inspirational singing and life-changing testimonies last weekend. This diverse group of over seventy Adventist men kicked off this spirit-filled weekend with a grand concert on Friday evening, May 20, 2005 at the Living Faith Church. On Sabbath, May 21, the group conducted the Sabbath School and Divine Service in a unique way. The lesson study and the sermon were embedded in music and personal testimonies by a few of the men. The AY time was no less inspirational. This never-to-be-forgotten weekend was culminated on Sunday night with a concert at the Maranatha Church. Although from the very beginning they stressed that they were not professional singers, these men could not convince those who heard the melodious strains and harmony of the heart-searching music that they were ordinary singers. The saying "There is no voice like a male's voice" was again reaffirmed. Thanks to Dr. Errol Holmes, coordinator of the group, and Pastor Paul Scavella, Bahamas Conference Adventist Men leader, and the local Adventist Men leaders for a life-changing weekend.

Evangelism While we are still trying to consolidate our gains from the last major crusades in New Providence, the fires of evangelism continue to burn. I wish to highlight the work of Pastor Peter Joseph, pastor of the Hillview and Real Harvest Churches. Just after completing a very successful effort for the churches in the Western Region of New Providence, he accepted an invitation to conduct a cruade for the Hagley Park Church in Kingston, Jamaica. Accompanied by his Bible Worker, Bro. Vernal Rolle, he led out in the Real Harvest Experience Gosepl Campaign April 9 to May 14, 2005. We congratulate Pastor Joseph for allowing the Lord to use him to encourage 195 persons to join the Family of God.

Graduations and General Conference Session The next two weeks will usher in graduation exercises for many of our students throughout the nation. Undoubtedly, they will be going on to higher levels of education or into the job market. We pray that whatever worthwhile direction these students take, they will experience great success. While we plan for graduation and summer jobs, I am told that many of you are also planning to attend the 58th General Conference Session in St. Louis, Missouri, U. S. A. This is very good. More of our members need to mingle with our brothers and sisters from around the world and observe the operation of the Adventist Church in Session. As we anticipate the inspiration and information that we will gain at the Session, let us pray that the Spirit of God will be manifested in a marked way. - Dr. L. A. Johnson, President, BC

Top Awards For Bahamas Academy Students Bahamas Academy extends congratulations to Kevin Dion Rolle, Jr. for placing second in the Bahamas Primary School Student-of-the-Year Awards Ceremony held May 21st at Government House. Kevin was among hundreds of primary school students nominated throughout the Bahamas for the coveted award and we are proud of the fact that he was a second place finalist.
