The atmosphere was euphoric as hundreds poured into the sanctuary at Berea. The blessings of God were waiting on us as we got there. The program began with a thrilling song service, led by Samantha Wilson of the Living Faith Church. Brother Louis Sama-Louis stirred our hearts and spirits with a prayer that expressed the concerns of youth and youth leaders; be crystallized the fact that under the banner of Christ, both Bahamians and Haitians need to work for togetherness and the betterment of our society; it stirred a passion to serve Christ. The host youth leader, Sis. Agatha Moncur, welcomed us and the service moved along passionately and purposefully. The congregation was introduced to the regional teams who will be assisting the new Youth Director, Pastor Andrew E. Burrows for the next four years. The introductions were punctuated with heavenly music from Divine Inspiration, the Berea Youth Choir, and the nationally acclaimed Pathfinder Band. Pastor Burrows challenged us all with a sermon that set things in perspective. He noted how in the classic battle of David and Goliath, David was offered the armour of others to challenge the gaint. David refused, noting that he would fight with the armour given by God. Pastor Burrows compared that to the church today. He noted that some times church members, young and old, want the youth to use the armour they think the youth should fight with. That is, there is only one way to fight in God’s army. Pastor Burrows said that we should allow the youth to fight in the armour, or the way, God has commissioned them to fight, with the armour provided by God Himself. The armour of today’s youth is not handed down from generation to generation, but rather is tailored individually by God for the individual needs of the youth and their leaders. He further noted that this armour does not restrict them to operating at the periphery of worship services, limited to scripture readings and song announcements, but allows them to step boldly into the centre of the arena of evangelism and soul-winning. The torch of leadership was passed from the outgoing youth director and recently elected Executive Secretary Eric D. Clarke to Pastor Burrows. Western region coordinator Pastor Michael Smith charged the Youth Director and all youth leaders present to hold dear the commission they were given, maintain integrity, and use every opportunity to spread the Gospel. Brother Ian Greene culminated the service with a passionate prayer for God to bless especially the youth and youth leaders for the mission that they have to do in the Bahamas today. Appreciation is expressed from the Youth Director to all those who participated in the service, particularly Tyrrell Miller, Bernadette Butler, Agatha Moncur, Kirk Price and the Pathfinder Band, Louis Sama-Louis, Darrell Taylor, Joan Rahming, Lamont Tinker, Tamika Roberts, Ian Greene, Barry Saunders, Elvardo Perpall, and Audley Mitchell. The charge has been given, the personnel are in place. We need to work together to tell a lost nation about a loving Saviour who loves us and wants us to live the abundant life. - Tamika Roberts
VBA is in Crooked Island and Long Island In last week’s Logos, the VBA story was headlined "VBA
Goes To Long Island and Crooked Island". This week, I have better news,
as underscored by today’s heading. Volunteer Bahamas Adventist is now in
Crooked Island and Long Island completing the extension to the Landrail Point
SDA Church and constructing the Stevens Long Island edifice. See
Web Page
On Wednesday of this week, Dr. John Carey, newly appointed district leader for Crooked Island, led a team into his district for the extension project. He was accompanied by Conference President Dr. Leonard A. Johnson and other volunteers, namely: Edsel Hanna, Breath of Life; Frankly Barr, Whitney Scavella and Franklin Sireno from Living Faith. The full team returns next week. Pray much for their success as they construct and preach to the honor and glory of God.
Heading the delegation of 15 persons into Long Island were Cecil Cartwright, Sr. and Erskine Oliver, Project Contractor, from the Maranatha Church. In fact, Bro. Cartwright, along with young Comfort Miller, also from the Maranatha Church, traveled to Long Island early on Sunday, February 23, to do the ground work in preparation for the team which traveled on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Other persons who traveled included Henry Moncur and Joshua Smith, Hillview; Andrew Hanna and Jerry Dsezas, New Englerston; Howard Barr, Johnson Park; Admiral Forbes, Breath of Life; Andrew Wells, Max Wells and Oral Gibson, Centreville; Elvardo Perpall, Grant’s Town; Marvin Taylor, Living Faith Church, Winston Ash, coordinator of VBA and a member of Grant’s Town. With God’s blessing of good weather and the team of volunteers along with the Long Island team of resident volunteers, the Stephen’s Church Building should be up with roof, windows and doors by next week this time. Remember that all things are possible if we believe and to believe is to actively do our part.

Education Corner (This is a weekly column sponsored by Bahamas Academy of SDA) Last week we explored how young children learn best through the senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, and tasting. This week we will look at activities that encourage muscle coordination. A child needs to learn not only the coordination skills involved in walking, running, and balancing, but he also needs to develop the fine muscle coordination that he will need in writing, moving gracefully, and using his hands and other parts of his body in certain ways. Let's look at some examples: Encouraging a child to do physical exercise is important. Good exercise involves running, jumping, crawling, rolling, hopping, throwing, dodging, and so on. The more refined movements come with practice. It is good to have the child practise balancing by walking on a small board or line drawn on the floor with chalk or coloured tape, perhaps even carrying something at the same time. Have the child do water-pouring exercises from pitcher to cup, cup to cup, transferring it with a spoon, pouring into a funnel, etc. You can increase the weights and amounts he has to handle as he improves. Eye-hand coordination is an essential part of the early education of any child, and without it he will have difficulty in many areas. Building things that need good eye-hand coordination is ideal. There are many activities and games a child can do to develop eye-hand skills. For example, standing dominoes on their ends in a row; games involving guiding a marble across a course and trying to keep it from falling into a hole, or trying to get several marbles into an arrangement of holes. Look for exercises that have this challenge built into them, and that make your child exercise his coordination. One word of caution, however, when allowing children to play with marbles, be sure your child is past the stage of putting everything in his mouth before giving him marbles to play with.
