A Repeat of Pentecost: Result of
Unity
Through
the cooperation of pastors and laity in the Bahamas Conference, 460
persons were baptized between January 1 and March 15, 2008. This
remarkable evangelistic explosion has resulted from a willingness of
pastoral and lay persons to accept the counsel of the Apostle Paul
to young Timothy to teach and preach “in season and out of season.”
- Going Contrary to the Norm
- Owing to unfavorable weather
conditions, it has not been the practice in the Bahamas to
launch evangelistic campaigns early in the year. However,
disregarding the normal way of doing “things,” we decided to
think and act “out of the box” this year. Accordingly, instead
of starting the end of February or early March, moving forward
in faith, we launched three crusades in the Family Islands
between the last week of January and mid February. Going
contrary to the normal ways of doing things has resulted in
significant accessions to the church. This is evidence that God
has honored our steadfast faith.
That was not all, for
our theme says “Pentecost and More,” and more we sought; and
therefore, two mega crusades were launched in Nassau. One headed by
Pastor J. Wilmoth James of the North Caribbean Conference, and the
other by Pastor Arbentz A. Pierre-Antoine of Maryland, USA. And,
yes, more was attempted as three more campaigns kicked off in North
Andros with Pastor Wendell McMillan, Field Secretary and Stewardship
Director of West Indies Union; in Eleuthera with Pastor Edward St.
Fleur, and in Crooked Island with Pastor Valentino Campbell.
- New Church
- As a result of the success of the
Sweet Redemptive Crusade, on Sabbath afternoon, March 15, 2008,
the new believers from this campaign conducted by Evangelist
James were organized into a new church by the Conference
administrators. The pastor, Kent Price, will be assisted by a
faithful group of charter members. The Conference Executive
Committee named the church “Redemption Seventh-day Adventist
Church.” It was further agreed to have this group meet at the
auditorium at Bahamas Academy. It is the prayer of the
administration that their sojourn at BA will be short lived; for
it is anticipated that this group would relocate to another
site. Thanks to the principal, Mr. Anthony Burrows, and his
administrative team for allowing this new group to use Bahamas
Academy as their place of worship. Your prayers and periodic
visits will further encourage these new babes in Christ.

- Power of the Gospel and
Pentecost
- Our experience last Sabbath was
rightly dubbed Pentecost and More because what took place was
more than the usual Sabbath happening. It was a blessing to
connect with our church brothers and sisters in Kingston,
Jamaica, via the internet and have live greetings from Union
President, Pastor Patrick L. Allen. More fulfilling was the
response of hundreds of persons taking their stand for Jesus and
becoming members of His remnant church. I experienced
gratification on Sunday night while attending the Sweet
Redemptive Crusade. The testimonies of two young men whose last
names, I believe, were Wallace and Nottage confirmed again that
what programs and events fail to do in transforming lives, the
power of the gospel does (changes a person from within).
Young people will do
remarkable things for Him. Equally gratifying was the warm and
sincere appreciation Pastor Dannie Clarke, executive secretary and I
felt while attending a similar meeting at the Haitian Crusade. While
we did not understand the language, we understood the love of our
people. This confirms that love is the same in “any language.”
- Conservation
- Now that these initial campaigns
have ended, the conservation aspect of Pentecost and More comes
into focus. This segment is designed to retain those added to
the body of Christ. While they will be nurtured and receive
further instructions to become grounded in the faith, they will
also be given the opportunity to share their new found faith
during the lay outreach in the second quarter. This initiative
will allow our lay members to become involved in preaching and
teaching the gospel.
-
- Thanks, Thanks!
- Thanks to you members for your
prayers, presence, participation and positive disposition for
all of the crusades. Thanks to all our pastors and workers and
visiting evangelists. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the
success of the crusades. - Pastor Leonard A. Johnson,
President
