- Impressions
of The "Footprints of Jesus Campaign"
- Power-packed! Riveting! Dynamic! Enriching! Exciting! Upbeat!
Entertaining, but filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit! That's
what's being said about the "Footprints of Jesus Gospel
Campaign" that started last Saturday evening, March 20, 2004. After
months of preparation that culminated in a heart-warming revival and a
half night prayer meeting, the island-wide crusade got off to a great
start, under the Big Tent at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center.
The soul-stirring music and the timely, Bible-based
gospel preaching excited members and visitors alike who packed the tent
every night. The message on Saturday night, "Amazing Hope for
Challenging Times," was especially moving. Under the anointing of the
Holy Spirit, Pastor Glen Samuels spoke about the disturbing events happening
in our world today that point to the soon return of Christ; for example, the
open practice of homosexuality and same sex marriage are now condoned by men
and women of religion. Just as Jesus stated in Luke 17, this sin that was
rampant in Sodom in the days of Lot is prevalent now. Clearly this is
contrary to God's plan for marriage.
One of the purposes that God established for marriage is
procreation, and this could only happen through the union of a man and a
woman. So in the face of our permissive society, it takes real men and women
to stand up for God. Our times demand brave men with intestinal fortitude to
resist the temptation to become involved in this evil practice.
We need some praying people in the nation and in the
Church to intercede for the protection of our people against the practice of
homosexuality and same sex marriage.
Evangelist Samuels suggested that the church must be a
place where God reigns in the hearts of the people. And as we come to
challenging times, we need the Holy Ghost to help us make the right
decision. The right decision will lead us to run for our lives. We will run
to Christ and develop a living relationship with Him.
After drawing our attention to the seriousness of the
times, Pastor Samuels told the riveting story of a woman who was at work at
the Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Before 9/11, the woman had attended
a crusade conducted by Pastor Samuels. During the meetings, he challenged
the listeners to run for their lives just as Lot and his family were
admonished to run and not to look back. The words "Run for your
life" made such an impression on this woman's mind that she remembered
them when the Trade Center was struck. With those words racing through her
mind, she hurried out of the building before it collapsed. Evangelist
Samuels urged his hearers to heed the warning signs and run for their lives
to Christ before it's too late.
All who attended the opening night of the crusade will
agree that the reality of the Second Coming of Jesus is our amazing hope for
these challenging times.
South Andros District Says Farewell to Pastor
Boateng During the weekend
of March 19 and 20, church members and friends from the South Andros
community came together in a revival and service of appreciation for Pastor
Owusu Boateng and his family. During the four years that Pastor Boateng
served in the district, the new Kemp’s Bay Church was built, and the
Driggs Hill Church was organized. Several members were added to the established
churches. Dr. Leonard Johnson, Conference President, was the featured
speaker during the Divine Hour of a joint service at the New Kemp’s Bay
Church. He encouraged the Brethern to continue to be faithful in the Lord.
At a special dinner Saturday night, members and community
leaders expressed their appreciation for the service the Boateng’s
rendered to the South Andros Community. Elder Melvin Lewis, Conference
treasurer, represented the Conference on that occasion. Pastor Boateng and
his family will be transferring to the San Salvador district where he will
be pastor.

Education Corner
Bahamas Academy
does not have an official alumni association like most high schools and
colleges. We are in the process of changing that, however, because we realize
that it is vital to keep in touch with alumni and for alumni to know what is
happening at their alma mater.
In spite of this, however, graduates and former students
are coming forward to "give back" to their school. Just last month,
a recent graduate of Bahamas Academy, Sebastian Bastian, donated a school bus
to his alma mater because he heard that the school desperately needed a bus to
transport students to all the functions they attend and activities they are
apart of.
The bus is painted in the school's colours-burgundy and
white-and the school's name is printed on both sides of the bus in the unique
old English font that's also painted on the front building of the school. Our
trademark is also there-"Home of the Stars".
Following on the heels of this generous donation, another
graduate of Bahamas Academy has donated a microscope to the science laboratory
of the school. This former student is Mrs. Marilyn "Marvey"
Seymour-Major who graduated in 1970. Mrs. Major is a Cytotechnologist at the
Neoplastic
Cytology Laboratory on Collins Avenue.
Mrs. Major presented this microscope in a short and
informal ceremony at the school on Monday, March 22. Witnessing the
presentation was Mr. Gary Jones, Head of the Science Department, Mr. Dalmor
McGregor, Biology teacher, and Mr. Delthony Gordon, Physics and Computer
Science teacher (visit the school's website for pictures).
Mrs. Major praised Bahamas Academy for the foundation it
provided for her in the field of science as well as the strong Christian
values inculcated in her while she was a student. As a result of her exposure
to Anatomy and Physiology at Bahamas Academy, Mrs. Major went on to become the
first Cytotechnologist for the Bahamas. Cytology is the microscopic study of
cells for the early detection of cancer.
After graduating from Bahamas Academy, Mrs. Major went on
to the University of Miami School of Medicine and became certified by the
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and the International Academy
of Cytology (IAC). She worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital for 30 years
before starting the Neoplastic Cytology Laboratory.
She told the Biology students in attendance that it is her
hope that the microscope and teaching slides will inspire other students to
pursue a career in science and/or Cytology.
It is exciting that this spirit of generosity is being
exhibited by our former students during this our 90th year. We have begun the
process of contacting as many of our alumni as possible to give them an
opportunity to give back to the school that laid the foundation for their
higher education. Mrs. Marian Bethell has been asked to co-ordinate this
project. She will be calling YOU soon! -Lynn C. Smith, Principal
