Focus on Evangelism
Motivated by the belief that Evangelism is the "Lifeblood" of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, pastors and laymen are gearing up for the first major evangelistic outreach for this year, 2003. Each pastoral district is planning a significant evangelistic activity to get the message out so that souls can come into the fellowship of the church and the kingdom of God.

A survey of the field revealed that although the districts are at various stages of planning for the evangelistic thrust, the main focus is evangelism. Everyone is optimistic that something great is going to happen in evangelism this year. The prayer teams in the various churches have been praying for a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit to energize the members to become involved in the program and to bring conviction to those who attend the meetings.

If you are a member in one of the churches in our conference, become an active participant in the evangelistic program your church is planning. The signs of the times are clearly indicating that Jesus is coming very soon. Therefore, we must hold out the light of the gospel to guide those who are trying to find the way into the fold of safety.

The following pastors have indicated that they are leading their churches into significant evangelistic activities during March and April:

Pastor Michael A. Smith will conduct a three weeks’ reaping campaign in the Hillview Church, beginning March 14.

Beginning Sunday, March 9, Pastor Eric D. Clarke and his team will launch "The Search for Truth Gospel Crusade" at the Grant’s Town Church.

Under the direction of Dr. Michael D. Toote and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Laymen of Johnson Park Church will launch out in the "Treasure of Life Revival," using the Go One Million materials.

Pastor Barrington Brennen and his team at the New Englerston Church are preparing for an outreach programme during March and April.

Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe, supported by the Breath of Life Church, will launch a reaping campaign during this month of March.

Pastor Andrew Burrows is also planning a reaping campaign at Berea during the latter part of April.

Supported by the evangelistic team at the Philadelphia Church, Pastor John Carey will begin a two weeks reaping campaign March 21 at the Philadelphia Church.

Pastor Peter Joseph will be breaking new ground as he begins a six weeks’ tent crusade in Pinewood Gardens on March 16. Backed by an enthusiastic team of Bible workers and prayer warriors, he anticipates a successful campaign.

As the plans for evangelism in the various districts are put into effect this quarter, let us pray that the Lord will honour the commitment of His witnesses with a great harvest of souls.

VBA Experiences Success In Long Island and Crooked Island Volunteer Bahamas Adventist is happy to report that the Steven’s church building is up and the roof is on. Members and passers-by in Stevens were all amazed at how fast the frame and rafters were put in and installed. Like Simeon of Bible times, Sis. Evelyn Lopez, one of the oldest members, exclaimed "mine eyes have seen the glory of the Lord." The happenings at Steven’s is the talk of the town. Non-members did a double take when they passed the building. Some came by to offer refreshments, personal assistance and donations.  See more photos

In Crooked Island the extension to the Landrail Point SDA Church is nearing completion. The windows and doors are in.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to the historic volunteers who led the way in both of these projects, especially the VBA cooks. Dollars and cents could not compare to the joy experienced, nor could a ruler measure the good feelings, fellowship and awesome presence of the Holy Spirit. Visit the conference’s website to view photos. VBA dues for March are now due for collection.

A special invitation is extended to one and all to come out tonight at 7 o’ clock. to the Living Faith Church where you will be able to see by video an up-to-date footage of the work in progress. Projection dates for other VBA projects will be given. VBA is for everyone. Won’t you plan now to join?

VBA Meeting Tonight I wish to invite all VBA partners and would-be partners to a very important meeting tonight, March 8th at the Living Faith SDA Church, at 7 o’clock. Our Conference administration will be in attendance. All pastors and elders and interested persons are encouraged to attend as a report on the Steven’s and Landrail Point Projects will be given. - Dr. L. A. Johnson, President, BC

Convention Train Ends in South Andros As usual, convention is a much anticipated district event. This year however, convention was overwhelming, soul stirring and extremely uplifting.

On Wednesday, February 19, the New Macedonia Church was filled with members, guests and visiting clergymen, who enthusiastically brought greetings. All were welcomed and blessed by district pastor, K. O. Boateng who gave the keynote address.

On Friday evening they were taken further into the "realms of glory" by Sister Cheryl Rolle, Education and Children’s Ministry Director. She delivered a powerful and thought provoking message that called us to a life of total dependence upon the Lord. This meeting was wonderfully enhanced by the harmonious singing of two opposing generation groups, the children and combined senior choirs.

Enthusiastic members and friends assembled once again on Sabbath morning. The Blessed Hope Quartet, accompanied by Bro. A. Sweeting on the guitar, melodiously reminded us about the marvelous God we serve. Additionally, the combined choir, directed by Sis. Ena Miller, thrilled us with a stirring rendition. Thoroughly inspired, Elder Melvin Lewis, Treasurer of the Bahamas Conference, eloquently related to the church on the topic "The Silence of God." He fervently suggested that we "evaluate our trials, pray earnestly and always remember that something better is coming."

On Sabbath afternoon, President Leonard A. Johnson gave a somber charge to members of the newly installed district committee. In addition, three deacons, three deaconesses and three elders were ordained. They included one female elder, Sister Minely Forbes.

The Sunday night meeting was also superbly complemented by heavenly music from the Youth choir and a guest soloist, Mr. I. Ferguson, principal of the high school. Pastor Johnson encouraged us to remain faithful to God despite the degradation and despair in our society. He concluded with this admonition, "seek forgiveness, comply with the spirit of God and exercise perfect love."

Convention 2003 was a mammoth source of inspiration for the district of South Andros. Now that fire has been successfully ignited, we sincerely believe that it will now be reflected as "positive fruits" in our daily lives. -South Andros Communication Dept.

My Sister’s Keeper Camp Kulaqua here we come! What a time was spent basking in the presence of the Lord at Camp Kulaqua in High Springs, Florida, February 20 t0 23, 2003. This year’s theme "Molded by the Master," echoed the prayer of each woman in attendance. The Bahamas had the largest contingent by far with Women’s Ministries members from Bethany, Johnson Park, Grant’s Town and Hillview SDA Churches registered.

We knew that a special blessing awaited us before leaving Nassau. God’s mercies were ever present as we enjoyed an uneventful flight, except for bumpy weather over Miami. We thank God for journeying mercies throughout our trip, from

airport to hotel, to the Camp and on our shopping excursions, And, yes, we did find time to add dollars to the Orlando local government treasury.

On our arrival, signs greeted us that encouraged us to allow "the Master" to mold us to be the vessels He has called us to be. Dr. Davidson was our speaker again at this year’s retreat for the Friday evening vesper service and Sabbath services. She spoke of the intimacy of our relationship with God and used the lives of great women in Scriptures to illustrate the concern love God holds for His daughters. The singing was heavenly and early morning devotional time uplifting. Overall, each service we attended served to assure us of our place of honour in God’s heart and the ways we can allow Him to use us to serve Him. God surely blessed the women who met Him, the Potter at Camp Kulaqua 2003.  - Dr. Stephanie P. Hutcheson, WM -Bethany

Long Island Alert Long Islanders, descendants, friends and spouses, we need you to do your part in helping our brethren in Long Island. A VBA Meeting will be held tonight at the Living Faith Church at 7 o’clock. You are cordially invited to attend -D. Ritchie

Education Corner (This is a weekly column sponsored by Bahamas Academy of SDA) Last week we looked at some activities that encourage muscle coordination in small children. This week we will continue our exploration of this topic:

Prepare your child for writing by giving him lots of little exercises for the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the right hand (or left). Encourage the child to grasp small objects with these fingers and have him hold crayons and other pencil-like objects as he would to write. Puzzles and toys with small knobs are good, too.

Beanbags are fairly easy to make out of old socks or scraps of cloth. Fill the bags with dried beans, rice, lentils, or popcorn, then sew them shut, and let the child toss them into a bucket or wastepaper basket. You can also teach him to balance the beanbag on his head while he walks. He can also use them to learn to catch.

Rolling balls to very small children helps develop good eye and hand coordination. Have a set of three or four small rubber balls of different colors that you can use for indoor play time. There are all sorts of ball games you can invent that will hold the toddler's interest. For plastic bottle bowling, set up small plastic bottles like bowling pins. Roll balls down an incline to knock over a small object set in the way. Throw all the balls into the bathtub at one time and guess which ball will come to rest on the drain hole first (be sure the balls are larger than the drain).

Play games with your children that involve lots of movement, decision-making, observation, such as skipping, follow-the-leader, ball-catching, hide and seek, tag, etc.

Parents don't often look at games as a learning experience for children. But just as children learn about the world around them through their senses, children also develop their bodies by using their muscles in various ways. So the next time your child wants to play a game, encourage him and play with him. Never think that he is wasting time and should be in front of a book.
