Grant’s Town Mothers Honoured

On Sabbath, May  13, 2006, the churches in the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists celebrated Mother’s Day; and Grant’s Town, the largest church in the Conference, led the way in paying tribute to the mothers of the church. Elder Percy Miller led the team of Grant’s Town men who catered to the mothers.

In reflecting on the events of the day, Erika Perpall, the church’s communication secretary, gave the following report:

Mothers are special people.  They are extremely special to the men of the “great Grant’s Town Church.”  Every year the men treat these special ladies to two days of pampering and praise.  This year was no exception.  The women were given a day off.  From Sabbath School to Divine Worship, the men took charge. One of the young men remarked that the mothers were given a chance to rest before they go back to their busy schedule of taking care of everyone else.

As they came to church dressed in white on their special day, the mothers were greeted at the door by the deacons and other men of the church with a hug and a beautiful rose.  The ladies were escorted to their seats at the front of the sanctuary where Brother Randolph Humes and guest soloist, Bro. Roosevelt Wilmore, serenaded them.

To begin the festivities properly, young Michael Bryan read an original poem.  This was followed by the presentation of special honours to ten of the mothers.  This year’s honourees were Sisters Betty Kemp, Carol Dorsett, Eloise Johnson, Christine Cleare, Gwendolyn “Queenie” Rolle, Jackie Deveaux, Darlene Edwards, Evelina Musgrove, Mellie Price and Ivy Humes.  Also, among the guests who were present was Bro. George Kerr’s grandaunt also celebrated her birthday.

The highlight of the day was the Divine Worship.  Pastor Andrew Burrows presented a soul-stirring message about Moses.  His most poignant point was that of the way Jochebed prepared her son before she released him into the world.  But this was just a prelude to the activities planned.  The festivities continue tomorrow, May 21, 2006 when, surrounded by families and well-wishers, the ladies will be fed a scrumptious meal.

Congratulations to Elder Percy Miller and his team for a job well did.  God bless these caring men, and God bless the mothers everywhere.

“Quiet Literature” reaches 603 persons             The “Quiet Literature” Out-reach Ministries team distributed 603 “Ten Commandments” tracts to residents of Big Blair, Little Blair and other areas. The process is still ongoing and the Ministries’ goal is to reach 1000 persons with literature pertaining to the “Ten Commandments.” Focus is also being placed on the residents of the Eastern Road. In order to hasten Jesus’ Second Coming,  The “Quiet Literature” Out-reach Ministries mission is to distribute God’s message using the method of the “Quiet Literature” by giving of tracts and books to individuals in our neighborhood and communities.
The seed was planted many years ago as the Guillaume “girls” fondly remembered how one of them had to accompany their grandmother, the late Sister Evangeline Antonio-Wood Holmes, a Bible-worker and the daughter of the first Seventh-day Adventist in The Colony of The Bahamas, as she went each week into the neighborhood and surrounding areas, leaving tracts and magazines to those whom she visited each Sabbath and Sunday afternoon.

Following in their grandmother and great grandmother’s footsteps, family members began distributing the “Ten Commandments” tracts in their neighbourhood, and to other persons in other areas.

Please pray for the success of this ministry and for the Holy Spirit’s intervention to the recipients of the literature. We would like to thank those persons who supported us in any way. -Sister M. Guillaume
