In the section "The Necessity of Careful Preparation", Mrs. E. G. White, pens: "Before assuming the responsibilities involved in marriage, young men and young women should have such an experience in practical life as will prepare them for its duties and its burdens. ... A relation so important as marriage and so far-reaching in its results should not be entered upon hastily, without sufficient preparation, and before the mental and physical powers are well developed." {Testimonies on Sexual Bahaviour, Adultery and Divorce, p. 15} The facilitators of this seminar believe that you should know what you are getting into before you commit your life fully to that other person in marriage. We have heard many complaints about marriage, families, children and broken homes. We’ve heard persons say that as they do about the weather, people complain, but nobody does anything about it. We may not be able to change the weather, but we can try to change wrong concepts about marriage. We can provide information that you should check out before checking into matrimony. Anything worthwhile and long-lasting requires hard work. Togetherness, Oneness, Joy do not just happen. They are brought about by prayer, preparation and persistent practice. Preparation for building a meaningful marriage that can weather highs and lows, happy hours and stormy moments requires a solid foundation and good material, guidelines and know-how. This seminar is formulated to nourish your relationship and bring strength to the prospect of marriage by being strongly biblically based, solidly Spirit of Prophecy supported and very practical in its orientation for the 21st Century. The suggestions, information, material and other activities designed in this seminar have been well researched and tested. However, we are looking for persons, couples who are serious about the most important step (next to surrendering their lives to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour) that they will ever make in life; that is, marriage. We are about helping couples to become better prepared and to increase greatly their chances for a successful marriage. The seminar will be held next weekend at the Pan Am Building, Oakes Field, Thompson Boulevard. The seminar times are Friday, May 30th, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sabbath, May 31st, 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Some of the subjects to be presented are: "God’s Plan for Marriage", "Roles and Expectations in Marriage", "Sexuality & Family Planning", "Communication and Conflict Resolution", "Love and Feelings", "Money, Money, Money - Financial Management", "The Wedding, the Honeymoon, the Marriage", "In-Law/Out-Laws/Family Background," and much more. Pastors Michael A. Smith and Barrington H. Brennen, Marriage and Family Ministries facilitators, will be providing stimulating discussion and presentations with colour visual aids and handouts. Interested persons or couples are required to pre-register by calling Ms. Winsome Flowers or Ms. Kerry-Ann Cargill at 341-4021 during the week.
