From the Office of the President

Greetings dear Saints of God! It is that time of the month that I usually greet and write you. I am indeed grateful for blessings that God continues to shower upon us as a church. In fact, I will endeavor to share with you some of these relating to Evangelism, finance and the progress of the new Bahamas Academy at the Mid-year convention beginning June 27. In this regard, I wish to remind you that Midyear Convention will feature the preaching of Shelly Quinn, John Lomacang and Clement A. Murray of 3ABN. Of- course, I will kick off convention as I would usually do focusing on the theme, "Words of Hope." Pray much for each one of us as we allow the Holy Spirit to equip us to minister to you. You can also expect the best in Christian music.

Sabbath Sacredness and Observance  I also use this medium to encourage you to pay attention to Sabbath observance. We are aware that God enjoins us "to keep holy" His Sabbath; and in the book of Isaiah we are told how to do that. May I note that when we see the Sabbath as a day to have added time with our God, then it is something that we will cherish. Having to work five or six days, one can appreciate the Sabbath which affords us quality time for worship of God. This worship of God reminds me that I am wonderfully made, for every weekend I see God as Creator and Designer of this world The Sabbath affords quality time for family as each member ceases from his or her regular work. It also allows for needed rest, even though we may go over board with that. One is also accorded time for visitation and other profitable Sabbath activities.

Now for all of these benefits to be realized, there is the need for preparation. Is it any wonder that God has given us a day of preparation? In fact, I find that if I begin preparing from the time Sabbath ends, it is easier to welcome the next Sabbath. The principle of preparation is to ensure that there is nothing to hinder me from worship of God and taking time to reflect upon His goodness. That may involve predetermining what the family will have for meals on the Sabbath or what they will wear for that matter. This principle saves time and frustration and unnecessary family tension. Simplicity is recommended as to avoid time-consuming preparation that prevents me from missing out on God’s intended blessings.

In this regard, some may reason that to avoid the hassle, why not go to a restaurant, especially if I pay up from Friday. The appearance of Seventh-day Adventists at such an establishment does not paint a positive picture. Many who serve us know what we stand for, and it becomes complicated when we seek to "win" these very ones and ask them to request Sabbaths off. They would probably wonder why request Sabbaths off if it is alright to go to restaurants and eat on the Sabbath? I am greatly moved by the operators of a leading restaurant who upon learning of God’s Sabbath decided to "shut down" their operation on Sabbaths in obedience to God’s command notwithstanding great business loss. Nevertheless, they find joy in trusting and obeying God, and you and I can do like wise.

Bahamas Academy Building Update   I would be remiss in my duties if I did not tell you that last Wednesday the ministers agreed to launch and promote regularly "the dollar-a-day initiative" to assist with the ongoing work on the new Bahamas Academy building. Please observe that this is not intended to replace what you are doing, I know that some of you give weekly and monthly to the project. This is designed to give the others of us who are not involved to assist with this needed project. The amount requested is not much. Even the children and retirees can get involved. So give just one dollar per day for the New Bahamas, Marshall Road. Do your part today! - Pastor Leonard A. Johnson
