Conference President Updates Readers
Greetings to you my dear brothers and sisters! As customary, I take this opportunity to highlight certain happenings within our conference, past and future, having embarked upon the final Sabbath of May 2006.

Midyear Convention
In less than a month, we will welcome to our shore Pastor Donald King, president of The Atlantic Union. Dr. King is no stranger to the Bahamas, since he was born here while his father, a native of Jamaica, was canvassing here. His wife will accompany him, and together they will bless our hearts. Additionally, you will hear from me on the opening night, as I address you from Deuteronomy 4.7-9. You may wish to read the entire chapter, and keep all of the speakers in
prayer. Also, it is likely that you will witness possibly the largest sitting choir –thanks to the recent successful music workshop under the leadership of Allison Mason and members of Eagle Music Ministries. Also, you will be further inspired by the exciting reports from our family islands as well as the presence of The Cockburn Town Adventist Children’s choir.

Commissioning Service
Another feature of this Mid-Year Convention will be the commissioning of two of our workers, Elder C. Melvin Lewis, Conference Treasurer, and Dr. Cheryl Rolle, Education Director. Please note that commissioning is not ordination but a commissioning of one in the field of service where he or she serves. It is the church’s way of affirming one who is not a pastor for years of dedicated service. A service of this nature will take place on Thursday, June 22, at the Grant’s Town Seventh-day Adventist Church. Dr. Patrick Allen, our Union president will preside.
Convention will climax on the grounds of the new Bahamas Academy on Marshall Road, on Sunday, June 25, at 4 p.m. in a special service, dubbed “The Journey Continues,” designed to sensitize all members to the progress of construction on our new school. Each church and member is here requested to give a special offering to the continuation of the project.

New Workers
My administrative colleagues join me in welcoming to our Conference a young intern Valentino Campbell, Noel Browne (son of Pastor and Mrs. Leon Browne), to the Audio/Video department and Mr. Anthony Burrows, new principal at Bahamas Academy. Mr. Burrows is no stranger to BA, since he served there before as a vice-principal. He is the son of the late Winifred Burrows and Elder Arnold Burrows.

BA Shines Again!  Congratulations are extended to young George Zonicle II, son of Debbie and Charles (C. B.) Zonicle, the overall National Primary Association Outstanding Student of the year! George, a 6th grade student at Bahamas Academy and member of Centreville SDA Church, walked away with the top honours out of over 150 contestants. To me, this underscores what happens when there is cooperation of good teaching and sound parental involvement. And to assure you that this type of success is not isolated, I remind you that only last year Bahamas Academy got first runner-up with Kevin Rolle in the same contest. I thank God for the recognition that He is according our school and educators. Kudos BA!

Keep Praying!
Finally, my ministerial colleagues and I solicit your prayers for the following: the family of the late Kayla Lockhart-Edwards, other grieving families, members who are sick, jobless, challenged with various issues and also for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the leadership issue for the North Bahamas Mission is settled during West Indies Union Midyear Committee. Representatives on this committee from the Bahamas Conference are the three officers, Andria Musgrove and Pastor Lynden Williams. Today, as you fellowship with one another and worship the Lord, have a happy Sabbath! -Leonard A. Johnson, President, Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists

Children’s Camp Meeting 2006 It was on April 2, 2006, that the children of our Conference gathered at the Living Faith Church on Old Trail Road for another fun-filled experience. Under the theme “Fit For Christ”, the health principles contained in the acronym, NEW START, were emphasized throughout the Camp Meeting. While waving colorful pom poms in the air, excited children lustily sang our theme song to begin the meeting every evening. Thanks to Sis. Munnings and her team for leading out in this. The happiest time of all, was “Gift Time.” The children were treated to gifts during the service. Also, there was something special at the end of each meeting. We will always remember our special feature each night presented by the “Drug Free Kids”. The main message was, “Stay away from drugs and just say No”. Thanks to Freddie (Dwayne Bullens), Gregor (Danielle Deveaux), Monique (Valyncia), Amy (Myesha), and Zan (Myesha) for visiting during the camp meeting and sharing valuable messages with the children.

Each night the presentations were heart-warming and enlightening. On Sunday night, Olympia Kelly from the New Providence Church shared with us the importance of ‘Nutrition.’ We should prepare nutritious meals each day, and breakfast should not be skipped. On Monday night the subjects were Exercise and Water. Mykel Mackey from the Grant’s Town Church stated that we should exercise regularly to improve our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Nelson Bain Jr. also from the Grants Town Church, although small in stature, delivered a firm message on “water”. We were admonished to drink at least eight glasses of water daily.

On Tuesday night, the Hillview Children’s choir took us up a notch higher with their melodious singing. Our first speaker, Ree-Anne Jones from the Hillview Church, bravely presented the topic “Temperance.” She told us to be disciplined in eating, watching Television, playing, etc. Our second speaker, Cintera Stuart, also from the Hillview Church, brought to us a timely message on ‘Sunshine’. On Wednesday night, Tornell Cooper from the New Providence Church ably presented the message on “Air.” She stressed that good, clean, fresh air is vital to our well-being. On Thursday night, Gabriel Moxey from the Grant’s Town Church, in his power-packed message, demonstrated the importance of physical, emotional, sensory and mental rest.

On Sabbath morning, what a climax we had as George Zonicle from the Centreville Church, energetically concluded our week with the topic, “Trust in God.” Brenda Scott recapped the entire week’s topics with a song.
Special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Rolle, Conference Children’s Ministries Director, for organizing another spectacular week of Camp Meeting 2006. A big thank you goes to Pastor Scavella, the Officers and Members of the Living Faith Church, especially Mr. and Mrs. White and Mr. McPhee, for hosting us. Thanks to the Children’s Ministry leaders from the various Churches for their support. The preachers were all graduates of the Child Preachers’ Workshop that was held in January. Finally, we thank Philip Humes, Ray Jennings and Nelson Bain for their assistance in helping to make this week a success. Until 2008, may God bless all of His children as they try to keep “Fit For Christ” so that they can ably spread His love to all. -Cindy Stuart, CM Leader, Hillview
