- Post-Election Message from The
President
On
Thursday, May 2nd, the citizens of the Bahamas were privilege to
participate in an exercise that many countries still do not enjoy-a
peaceful General Election. We joined thousands in voting for the
candidates or parties of our choice while respecting the rights and
opinions of others.
While many of us are rejoicing at the outcome of the
Elections and while there are many who are sadden by the results, let us
remember that Our God still rules in the kingdoms of men and through His
divine providence orders the events of human history toward the ultimate
setting up of His everlasting kingdom.
Therefore, we can and should come together in praying for
the newly elected leaders of our country and ask that God 's wisdom would
prevail as they lead out in the process of governance. Notwithstanding our
political persuasions, the Government of the Bahamas is the government for
all the people of the Bahamas.
We should also keep in mind that as Christians
we face the dilemma of dual citizenship. On the one hand we belong to God’s
kingdom, and on the other, to our country of citizenship. We are part of the
"new humanity" and we live in the midst of the "old
humanity." Most of the times there is no conflict with these two conditions
but we need to be mindful of the fact that on occasions there may be a conflict
when the demands or duties of one citizenship collide with those of the other.
In such cases the Scripture is clear: "'We must obey God rather than any
human authority'" (Acts 5:29, NRSV).
Furthermore, God’s kingdom is not isolated
outside of the present world; it "is among you" (Luke 17:21,
NRSV). In other words, the kingdom of God is a sphere, a commitment, an
attitude, and a way of life and thinking that permeates our total existence and
gives special meaning to national citizenship. It is God's sovereignty invading
human living. I pray that this disposition would be our s as we relate to one
another and to those who have been elected to lead us over the next five years.
Have a Happy Sabbath! -K. D. Albury, president of the
Bahamas Conference

Voice of Prophecy to Recommission Bible School
Beginning May 22, 2002,
Bahamas Voice of Prophecy Festival will be held at the Hillview SDA Church.
Invited to share in this festival are Pastor Lonnie and Jeannie Melashenko, Del
Delker and Pastor Walter Arties. Pastor Melashenko is the director-speaker for
the Voice of Prophecy, the world’s second oldest religious broadcast. He began
working with the radio ministry in January, 1989, serving as announcer while
continuing as senior pastor of the 1,400-member Paradise, California, SDA
Church. He was associate director-speaker from May, 1991, through December,
1992, and, on the retirement of H. M. S. Richards Jr., became director-speaker
on January 1, 1993
In 2001 the Voice of Prophecy launched "The Voice to the
World," a new strategy of global evangelism, composed of three parts: Plant
the Word, Preach the Word, and Preserve the Word. These involve, respectively,
setting up Bible schools in countries where there is none, conducting
evangelistic meetings around the world each year, and following up persons who
make decision through radio broadcasts and Bible study materials.
Beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, the re-commissioning
of the Voice of Prophecy Bible School will be launched. Special guests along
with Elder Lonnie Maleshenko will be present to witness this momentous event.
Additionally, services will be held nightly at 7:30 from
Wednesday, May 22, to Saturday, May 25, at the Hillview Church. Elder Maleshenko
will be the guest speaker. Guest artists for this VOP Festival are Del Delker
and Pastor Walter Arties.
We are encouraging all members to pray for and attend these
meetings. Let us let this be a time of refreshing from the Lord.
