Under the theme "Times of Opportunity," Pastor Wade gave an historical account of how God has been working with His people through the years to present a message of hope to the world. On Friday night, Pastor Wade used a series of detailed charts that he made to illustrate the sequence of events and movement of people recorded in the Bible leading up to God's call to Abraham and Abraham's response to this call. Details regarding the call of Abraham and how he fitted into God's plan were discussed during the Sabbath afternoon meeting at the newly dedicated Living Faith Church. Wade revealed that the story of Abraham's life, which was a "series of climbs," greatly impacted his own life. Although Abraham had his struggles and personal challenges, he maintained a steadfast faith in God. His unwavering faith in God was especially highlighted when he stood with knife in hand on the mount, ready to sacrifice the promised son to the Lord. God rewarded his faith. In his explication of the Biblical record of Abraham's journey from Ur of the Chaldees (Iraq) to Canaan, the promised land (Gen. 11-18),Wade asserted that Abraham was "the right man, in the right place, at the right time." As we reflect on the story of Abraham, we recognize that we need to be more diligent in trusting and following God. It is reasonable to conclude that as he kept his promise to Abraham, He will provide for us now and in the future. In his final presentation on Sunday night, Pastor Wade pointed out that although Solomon came on the scene when conditions were favorable for telling the world about God, he missed the opportunity to get the message out. It is evident that "God was working like leaven in bread" to build up opportunities for Solomon to spread the gospel for the time, but he failed to do the right thing at the right time. Apparently he allowed his "wisdom" to minimize his dependence on counsel from the men of God. There is no record of a prophet speaking to Solomon about anything. Relying on his own judgment, Solomon became rich and famous, and five years after his death, the Egyptians came and took away all his wealth. In reference to our time, Pastor Wade asked, "Are we taking advantage of the opportunities available to us for spreading the gospel? According to Matthew 24:14, the one thing that is preventing the coming of Jesus is the preaching of the gospel to all the world. And the most effective means of preaching is the way we live. This is supported by Paul in I Thessalonians 1: 5 & 6. "Are you ready to stand in the gap in this time of opportunity?" The speaker challenged us with this question at the conclusion of the Bible Conference. Although he did not discuss at length any burning theological issues, Pastor Wade made us more aware of our need to trust God to empower us to take advantage of the opportunities that we have to live the gospel day by day.

Today’s column will meet our second objective. From time to time, many wonderful things happen with our students and we feel our constituency needs to know so they can share in our joy and delight and encourage our students in their academic pursuits. The school year has just started, but already our students are making us proud. We want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Debating Team of the Secondary Division on the stellar performance shown during the first round of the national debating competitions which was held at Nassau Christian Academy on Wednesday, November 6, 2002. The team consists of three members: MIA PINTARD, BREHON DAVIS (Bethany Church), and PEDRO ROLLE, JR. (Bethany Church) and they defeated their opponents from Westminster College in a debate which discussed the moot, "Be it Resolved, Education is a Privilege and Not A Right". The Academy’s team was the proponent of the moot. Mia Pintard emerged as the Overall Best Speaker of the competition. We are very pleased with the performance of these students as this was the same team which debated last year in the nationals winning in two consecutive rounds with Mia Pintard being chosen as Best Speaker on both of those occasions. Further congratulations are in order for Brehon, Mia, Pedro and Levardo Sands (New Providence Church) on placing 2nd at the United Nations Model Session held at the Radisson Cable Beach Hotel last school year. The team was presented recently during the School’s weekly assembly period with trophies and a computer system for their school sponsored by the Rotary Club. We say "thank you" to their head coach, Mrs. Celestine Creighton, who is assisted by Miss Allison Sawyer. Lots of hours go into helping students prepare for contests of this nature and we want to register our sincere appreciation to these hard-working teachers. The debating team will debate St. John’s College on November 20. Please pray for their success. The Secondary Division is continuing to rejoice this week after the successful completion of a very inspiring Week of Prayer with Pastor Lynden Williams, pastor of the Eleuthera District. His theme was: "Earth, Our Challenge; Heaven, Our Goal". As he preached every morning, students listened and many students recommitted their lives to Christ. Six precious souls were baptized last Sabbath as a result of this spiritual emphasis. We pray that God’s Spirit will continue to work on the hearts of other students who need to make a decision for the Lord! Continue to pray for our administrators, teachers, and students.
