Built by the hands of church members themselves, the Living Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church, located on Old Trail Road, stands as a testimony to their love and commitment to their community and their God. The new church as cushioned seats, plush carpeting, wooden accessories and royal blue decor. Its true purpose is to be a spiritual house of healing and restoration for the community in which its members serve. At the ceremony, special accolades were showered firstly on prominent SDA minister and visionary, Pastor Hugh A Roach, who founded the church on April 23, 1988 after the Living Faith Crusade culminated with the baptism of some 122 persons who responded to the call of God. Special mention was made of members such as Elder Whitney Scavella, who performed all of the masonry work on the church; Elder Frankie Barr, who did all of the woodwork, and Elder Isaac Johnson, who handled the more refining aspects of the project, Mr. Brian Barrett and the church's prayer warriors, Rose Deveaux, Mae McIntosh and Jennifer Wilson. On Sunday, November 3 this edifice of spiritual grandeur was dedicated to God witnessed by of hundreds of Seventh Day Adventists and invited guests including Prime Minister Perry Christie, former Governor General Sir Orville Turnquest, Leader of the Opposition Senator Tommy Turnquest, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education Veronica Owens, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Health and MP for Marathon Ron Pinder and former Deputy Prime Minister Sir Clement T. Maynard. The strong support of Living Faith was intensified even more with contributions made by member churches of the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, whose pastors made financial contributions and commitments to the see the church debt-free for this building venture. In his remarks, Pastor Sturrup commended the congregation of Living Faith for the sacrifices made to bring infra structural life to the vision of Pastor Roach. He said that the erection of the church solidifies a strong, rich legacy and heritage of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Living Faith, he said, is not only a place of worship, but it is also mandated to serve humanity in all of their tryings, and prepare souls to reach that higher plane of service to God. It is his fervent desire, he said, that the dedication of the new church, would also rebirth a new sense of recommitment and dedication of our spiritual lives to the Lord by his membership This church is indeed the church that love built with some members taking their vacations from their jobs just to come out and lend a helping hand by painting, doing carpentry, cleaning and some cooked for those who worked. Sometimes members worked to the wee hours of the morning to complete different phases of the building project. -Vanessa C. Rolle
7th Annual Bible Conference Kicked Off Last Night The seventh annual Bible Conference commenced last night November 8, 2002, at 7 o’clock at the Hillvew Seventh-day Adventist Church on Harrold Road with Pastor Ken Wade and his wife, Debby. The objective of having an annual Bible Conference says Pastor Albury is to make available presenters who have delved deeply into God’s word and are well versed in biblical studies. Thus, we encourage our members to attend and become knowledgeable as Pastor Wade focuses on fundamental doctrines of our church. The Bible Conference meetings continue this morning at 11o’clock and at 3:30 p.m at the Living Faith Church, Old Trail Road. All who attend are certain to be inspired and informed because Pastor Wade brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this conference. In 1984, Pastor Wade was appointed assistant editor (later associate editor) of Ministry magazine and assistant secretary of the Ministerial Association for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. While at the Ministerial Association, he was the chief contributor to In His Steps, a baptismal manual, and was responsible for editing and production of Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . From 1990 to 1994, Wade was ministerial secretary, communication director, and global mission coordinator for the Southeast Asia Union Mission (of the Far Eastern Division) in Singapore. Pastor Wade has published several books, including Jesus for a New Millennium, The Orion Conspiracy, Secrets of the New Age, and Savage Future, as well as numerous articles in Adventist and other Christian periodicals. Since 1998, he has also written a weekly e-mail devotional, "A Fresh Look at Jesus." He speaks at camp meetings, weekend retreats, and church revivals on a variety of topics: "What Is Jesus Waiting For?" (prophecy/end times series); "Let's Talk About Jesus" (fresh insights from the gospels); "Journey to Moriah" (revival or week of prayer series based on the story of Abraham); "The God Who Is There" (series for seekers based on personal experiences and stories); and "New Age Seminar" (background and significance of the New Age movement). It would be a great thing to invite friends, co-workers and neighbours to attend this 7th Bible Conference. Once again, the Conference administration requests your personal support.
Prayer Request Pastor Neville Scavella solicits your prayers as he is schedule to have open-heart surgery on Monday, November 11, at Doctors Hospital.
Children -United in Worship Today worshipping God can be a confusing and often boring part of church for many children. It’s not that children and worship don’t go together but that today’s children may have a difficult time understanding why they’re worshipping. Therefore it should be made simply clear in our services that we worship God for who He is and for what he does. By discovering what God does, children better understand who God is - and vice versa. Direct children to the things God does and can do, such as helping, protecting, providing, loving healing and forgiving. Encourage children to address God in these ways during worship and even in their prayers. These are two of the most joy-filled ways we express our love to and for our loving father. By helping children understand what God does and who he is, we’re drawing them closer to God in heart, mind and spirit. Have fun helping your children build prayerful, powerful, worshipful lifestyles that will draw them nearer to God.

Prophecy Seminar Held in Eleuthera For three weeks, the James Cistern Church launched out in a Seminar, covering the Prophecies of Daniel. The meetings were held each evening, from Sunday to Thursday at 7:00. At times the attendance dropped, but as the meetings continued, the attendance improved, while the audience drank in the word of God. Many were surprised to see the scriptures unfold in the way that they did. On Sabbath, October 26th, five individuals gave their lives to Jesus, and were baptized into the fellowship of the Church. We say to God be the glory. Pastor Lynden O. Williams
It should not be difficult to understand, then, why teenagers do things they know they should not do-they don't have the courage to be different from the "group". This can be dangerous, though, because it leads to conformity and conformity can cause your son or daughter to do things that he/she knows are wrong. The problem is further compounded because each time he/she gives in to peer pressure, it becomes easier the next time to give in. This is how drugs or sexual promiscuity can become a part of teenager's life before he/she realizes it. Sometimes we as parents forget what it was like for us when we were teenagers. We went through the same struggles, made some of the same mistakes, and if it weren't for the grace and mercy of the Lord and possibly a trusted mentor, our lives may have turned out differently. So let's be more positive and encouraging with the way we deal with our teenagers. Listed below are some suggestions to help you: 1. Help your teenager recognize that he/she is not alone with feelings of inferiority. Let your child know that other teenagers also feel the same way. 2. Discuss with your child some signs of inferiority: shyness, being extremely angry or mean, acting silly, or being afraid to participate in a game. 3. Encourage your child to face his/her problems. Have the child list all the things he/she dislikes about himself/herself. Help the child to change what can be changed and remind the child that it is healthy to learn to accept the things which cannot be changed (like height, complexion, etc.). 4. Help your child compensate for his/her weaknesses. Help your child balance those weak areas by excelling in some other area. Encourage your child to take up music lessons, art lessons, enroll him/her in an athletic club or camp. Each child has a gifted area; our job as parents is to identify that area and help the child to grow in that area. 5. Create an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and encouragement in your home. Compliment your child for jobs well done, for remembering to do household chores, for being responsible-do not compare one child with the other. When parents are constantly nagging teenagers about their faults and being negative, they begin to accentuate these feelings of inferiority in their children. Remember, too, God is just as concerned about the feelings of frustrations you feel as the parent of a teenager. Always keep your children in prayer before the Lord. Happy parenting!
