Community Services/Pathfinders Exhibition ‘02
Despite intermittent rain, this year’s Community Services/Pathfinder Exhibition, held last Sunday at the R. M. Bailey Playfield, was indeed a blessing. All Churches throughout New Providence displayed an impressive array of craft, vegetarian cuisine and native dishes, tastily prepared to the delight of everyone in attendance.

Pastor K. D. Albury, president of the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, officially opened the exhibition by challenging both Community Services and Pathfinder organizations to a greater outreach in ministry to the underprivileged in our midst. Guest speaker and Cabinet Minister for Transport and Aviation, Mrs. Glenys Hanna-Martin, brought remarks highlighting the valuable contribution made by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the formation of our young people and the further development of our nation.

The afternoon segment of the Exhibition was marked by a dazzling display of musical talent from the Pathfinder Band, under the direction Kirk Price, Band Leader. Another crowd pleaser, sponsored by the Pathfinders, was the Bible Drill which showcased the brilliance, potential and Bible knowledge of our young people.

Exhibition 2002 was also historic in that Cat island, a Family Island District, was represented by two of its churches, Seaview and Devil’s Point. Also noteworthy of mention was the presence of the newly acquired Grant’s Town Community Services van which, along with the Conference Mobile Unit, will seek to minister more effectively to the suffering and marginalized in our society. Pastor E. D. Clarke, Conference and National Youth Leader, also brought greetings, commending the Pathfinders in his usual energetic fashion.

Furthermore, we salute the Northern Region of Churches who last week conducted a most successful and historic Community Services Conference. The conference, which culminated with a Community Services Exhibition in Freeport on Sunday, October 13, 2002, highlighted a well deserving cadre of Ingathering donors.

Again, thanks to all our churches and pastors who made this year’s Exhibitions such a resounding success of good Christian fellowship! -Dr. M. D. Toote, Director

Congratulations, It’s a Boy!  The president, officers and staff of the Bahamas Conference salute and congratulate Pastor Ricardo and Sis. Tamika Bain on the arrival of their first son, Ricardo Vernon Bain, Jr. Father, mother and son are well!

The Triple ‘C’ Family Plan Have you registered as yet and become a member of the Triple ‘C’ Family Plan? A.. If you were to die, do you have means for your funeral? B. If you become jobless, do you have a plan of recovery? C. If you are overtaken with some major financial crisis, is your church in a position to help you? The Triple ‘C’ Family Plan is a step in the right direction so that you can say YES to these questions. Church pastors, treasurers, stewardship personnel have the information for you. It's not too late; sign up today! Remember the principles of the Program are based on the model of the Early Church (Acts 2 - 4).

Part (a) will be implemented immediately. We expect that (b) and (c) will come on stream once part (a) is well established. Triple ‘C’: Concern, Care, Comfort.

The acceptance and implementation of the Triple ‘C’ Family Plan are projected to bring untold blessings to the church family and to the spread of the gospel. Remember, we need 1,000 persons throughout the Conference signed up before the end of the year in order for the program to be fully implemented. Let us seek together with this Plan the mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Let us continue to pray for and sign up for the Triple ‘C’ Family Plan.

"WE ARE A FAMILY-TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT." -M. A. Smith, Stewardship Director

Education Corner
This is a weekly column sponsored by Bahamas Academy of S.D.A.
Teaching is an extraordinary career. What other calling offers the opportunity to mold so many young lives? What an incredible privilege and responsibility!

Ponder these thoughts on the profession of teaching:

!The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.

!You can teach a lesson for a day but if you teach curiosity, you teach for a lifetime.

!Teacher’s task: take a lot of live wires and see that they are well grounded.

!The mediocre teacher tells, the good one explains, the superior one shows, the great one inspires.

!Teachers believe that dreams are as special as books.

At Bahamas Academy, we believe that we have a great cadre of teachers teachers who go the extra mile, teachers who take the time to listen to the problems of their students, and teachers who become like second mothers or fathers to our boys and girls.

We also feel, though, that many of these unsung heroes do not get highlighted because people very seldom mention the positive things that are happening in the classroom; the negative things seem to get highlighted most. We further feel that the office, cafeteria, janitorial, and custodial staff are doing wonderful things in dealing with our customers, but they are also unsung heroes. We want to change that.

The administrators of our School have started a reward system called: Staff Member of the Month. Each month, we plan to recognize two staff members (not just teachers) who demonstrate a willingness to be cordial, helpful, who display a Christian spirit, and foster positive relationships with parents, students and colleagues.

We would like you to assist us with this project by letting us know when you have a positive experience with any one of our staff members. Let any one of the administrators know when this happens and we will be sure to recognize that person at the end of the month.

For the month of September, two of our wonderful staff members were given gifts and a Certificate of Recognition. They are Nelson J. Bain and Brenda Scott! Kudos to them! I’m sure you would agree these two individuals are wonderful assets to our team.

So we look forward to hearing from you soon so that we can award two more staff members at the end of October.

Upcoming Events at Bahamas Academy:

!October 20: Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Early Learning Center at 3 p.m. (Adjacent to Living Faith Church).

!October 24: Distribution of Mid-term reports in both divisions.

!October 25 to 28: Mid-Term Break.

!October 29 to November 1: Final exams for Grade 12. -Lynn C. Smith, Principal

Need Good Videos for the Family? Are you tired of the poor selection of movies available on television and the video stores? Over the years, Hollywood has gone from creating movies like "The Sound of Music", and "It's a Wonderful Life" to edgy films and suggestive TV. Forrest S. Baker III, founder of Feature Films for Families, believes that the only way to counteract this negative trend is by creating positive, uplifting movies that both teach and entertain, movies that instill important values that have stood the test of time. Many families feel helpless against the media onslaught of violent films and TV. Feature Films for Families is committed to providing quality entertainment that lifts the spirit and strengthens those bedrock beliefs families hold dear.

To find out more about Feature Films for Families go to www.familytv.com . In addition there are many website for good Christian movies such as www.christianfilms.com / or www.billiygraham.org  and selection "World Wide Pictures."- Internet Ministries
