Let God Speak’: A Bible-based Revival Is Here
The committed and connected members of the Seventh-day Adventist churches on the Island of New Providence are excited that "Let God Speak," a Bible-based revival is here. At 7:30 p.m. today, the curtain will rise for the beginning of "Let God Speak" Bible Campaign, under the Big Tent at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center. The Evangelist, Guy Nembhard, a "runaway-boy-turn-preacher," will be speaking nightly, except Monday and Thursday. Those of you who attended any of the services at which Evangelist Nembhard spoke last week will agree that we have evidence that he will let God speak through him in a mighty way. You and your guests need to be there to hear God speak the plain and simple truth from His Word.  See Latest News from the Campaign

My brothers and sisters, God has a work for us to do in this campaign. It will require us to have "a spirit of service and self sacrifice." Here is what Ellen White says to us in the Acts of The Apostles, page 111: "Long has God waited for the spirit of service to take possession of the whole church so that everyone shall be working for Him according to his ability. When the members of the church of God do their appointed work in the needy fields at home and abroad, in fulfillment of the gospel commission, the whole world will soon be warned, and the Lord Jesus will return to this earth with power and great glory."I believe that all of us are anxious for Jesus to come, but the people in our communities must be warned before He comes. And God has given us, His followers, the responsibility to do the warning. Therefore, every member must do his part. No one can do your work. Again Ellen White states: "Christ commits to His followers an individual work – a work that cannot be done by proxy. Ministry to the sick and the poor, the giving of the gospel to the lost, is not to be left to committees or organized charities. Individual responsibility, individual effort, personal sacrifice, is the requirement of the gospel." (Ministry of Healing, page 147).

This means that whatever you are able to do to contribute to the success of this campaign, you should do it to the honour and glory of God. By now you should have volunteered for one of the various areas of interest; however, if you have not decided to work in any of the areas recommended, you should invite at least three persons to attend the meeting tonight, and encourage them to attend every night. Then, pray that the Spirit of God will use the Evangelist to convince the listeners to accept Jesus as Lord and become a part of His Remnant people.

Let us do all we can to make this campaign the most successful in the history of our Conference. See you and your guests at the Big Tent tonight! -Editor

Report On Mid-year Workers’ Meeting On Tuesday, August 26, 2003, the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists held a one-day workers’ meeting at the Nassau Beach Hotel. The theme for the meeting, "Teaming Up for Effective Service," emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among workers to give the best service possible to the constituents in our Conference.

Mr. Nelson Bain, an accountant at Bahamas Academy, coordinated the devotional segment of the meeting. The entire devotion was presented in a creative and inspirational manner. Pastor Peter Joseph gave the devotional thought that set the tone for the rest of the meeting. He stressed that workers need to "grow together in order to go together." But to grow together, we must accept our differences. This requires each worker to empty himself of selfish expectations and prejudices and surrender to Jesus. Thus our motives and attitudes will have a positive effect on the whole team.

During his welcome and introductions, Pastor Leonard Johnson, Conference President, affirmed the team and made everyone feel important. He led out in an exercise that allowed each team member to identify his/her personality type. We discovered that one’s behaviour is based on his/her type of personality. Therefore, cooperation and understanding among team members will be enhanced by their knowledge of their personality types.

After the workers were up-dated on the evangelistic programme, the financing of the team and the policies that govern the operation of the Conference, some time was allowed for team feedback (questions and answers)

Just before dismissal for lunch and fellowship, Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe closed the meeting with a prayer of consecration.

World Pathfinder Day

Each year, during the month of September, the World Church recognizes that the value of our young people through its World Pathfinder Day. It is a time to remember that the Pathfinders programme in many countries counteracts the negative trends that are prevalent in most countries.

In the Bahamas, the Pathfinder organization is reputed to be the largest uniformed youth group. We celebrate and recognizes, our Pathfinders as making a positive impact as we follow the "Master’s Path."– September 14th at 10:00 a.m. the Living Faith Church invites you to the Investiture service of its Pathfinders. Many persons from the community will be in attendance.

!Sabbath, Sept. 20th –Pathfinder Day in our local churches

!Sunday, Sept. 21st –Grand Pathfinders parade, in which we take a positive message through the streets of Nassau. The parade starts at Windsor Park and ends at the Big Tent in Yellow Elder. Pathfinders, Masterguides, Adventurers, Eager Beavers, will be out in full uniform. Church members will be out in their T-shirts featuring their churches’ various colour.’ - Pastor A. Burrows, Youth Director

Adventists Help Haitians

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is endeavoring, through Adventist Development and Relief Agency -- ADRA (the world's largest private relief organization), to educate and train Haitians with the view of increasing literacy, thus making a difference in Haiti and in the Bahamas.

ADRA has launched a literacy initiative, a ministry designed to assist one hundred thousand persons. Already in operation for a number of years, the programme is making a positive impact upon the lives of many Haitians. Also, through ADRA, the Adventist Church is sponsoring a programme known as Micro Economics designed to empower local farmers.

From August 18 to 20, Pastor Leonard Johnson, president of Bahamas Conference, and his wife, Denise, visited Adventist Church leaders in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. In an effort to forge and strengthen the link between the church in the Bahamas and the church in Haiti, they met with members and leaders at all levels of the denomination and toured various sites of interest. As there are thousands of Haitians in the Bahamas, with about two thousand attending the Adventist Church, it was felt that this visit was long overdue and could serve to identify areas of need that the Bahamas Conference would target and in which it would assist. It was agreed that our Conference could best assist with the construction of churches in Haiti. Since many of the churches have to conduct three services each Sabbath morning, beginning as early as 6:30, this is definitely a great need.

On Saturday, December 13, all Adventist churches in New Providence will collect a special offering to assist with church construction in Haiti. The Conference Headquarters will match the offerings collected for the projects.

Education Corner

Now that the stress of getting children prepared for the opening of school is over, you can relax--uniforms are made, shoes are bought, books and bags have been purchased, and school fees have been paid. Your responsibilities as a parent of school-age child are now over. Right? I'm sorry to "burst your bubble", but your responsibilities are just beginning.

There are many things parents need to keep in mind as we begin another school year. But I would like to zero in on one of the most important things--that of maintaining regular and consistent contact with your child and his teacher(s). Studies have shown that parents who do this have children who make better grades and do better in school.

It was wonderful to see the gym filled to capacity with parents on Back-to-School Night. Many times we begin the school year with lots of zeal and good intentions. But as the year wears on, we get so caught up with other activities that we forget that our main priority is our children.

Parents, let's resolve this year to:

!Attend PTA meetings regularly

!Check your children's books every night (even if the child is in high school)

!Check with your child's teacher when you have questions about homework, projects, etc.

!Reserve passing judgment on an issue until you have heard "the other side of the story".

!Talk to your children about school. Listen to their fears and apprehensions. Assure them that "this, too, shall pass".

!Pray with and for your children that God will always put a hedge of protection around them.
