Church Members Thanked for Crusade Support
So impressed were my administrative and ministerial colleagues and I as we witnessed your high level of enthusiasm and support accorded the "Let God Speak Bible Campaign" launched on Saturday past. It was so gratifying to see every chair occupied and you willingly giving up your seats for visitors and the elderlies. As if that were not enough you not only returned but exhibited the same spirit night after night. Thanks a hundred times! As we commence week two the campaign advances to another level requiring greater support, much prayer and your presence.

As for the preacher Evangelist Guy Nembhard, God used him in an unmistakable manner. I vividly recall Tuesday night's message billed "Can We Identify The Anti-Christ?" Old and new Adventists as well as visitors appreciated the simple instructional but dynamic style employed in the presentation. It is amazing that though we have heard these things times before each time offers new vistas of truth and understanding. Haven't we been blessed?

We must continue to assist our visitors, friends and families ensuring that they attend each meeting. To do so it goes without saying that we will be there ourselves. You would also wish to submit the names of your prospects completing the three simple Bible lessons and supmiting them to your pastor so that we may have them for the big graduation this weekend. Lest I forget, the Evangelist wishes to meet with ALL MEMBERS in a service entitled Adventists United in Prayers from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. at the tent tomorrow . Additionally, more members are requested to join the Joshua Team. Your pastor will explain.

Reflecting on this week's blessings, I confirm that the purchase of the generator was a divine idea in many ways -I will elaborate later. Thanks to those who assisted with the decision. I was also grateful for God ‘s diverting the path of Hurricane Isabel. Members and colleagues you prayed and God answered. What a mighty God we serve!

Early Learning Center Transitioning from the crusade, I wish to share another matter for your financial and prayerful input. It is the new Early Learning Center currently under construction. While this was not on our list of buildings for VBA for this year it would seem that it was on God's agenda. I feel this way as I visit the site and see the faithfulness and remarkable commitment of VBAs headed by Brothers Winston Ash, Cecil Cartwright Sr. and Howard Barr and the m-a-n-y others working without pay I am humbled and awed. At times I have to pinch my self and I do so to speak. However, there is a challenge as we need approximately $50,000 to complete the project leading up to phase 2 which means completion of the north wing as well as a section of the eastern wing. It is projected that phase one will be ready by the end of next month, thus allowing for our little darlings to move into new facilities. Fifty-thousand dollars is not a great amount for a conference our size it is simply 500 members giving one hundred dollars each or 1,000 members giving $50 each. Brethren, the time has come for us to venture out in greater faith. Additionally, your presence for 2 hours or more on Sunday or any day or afternoon as your job allows will help to propel the project. Let me also add that some of you have already made contributions. I can recall members giving $10,000, $1,000 and a pallet of cement respectively. Certainly there are others of you who can and are willing to share of your means with which God has entrusted to you. Please call our treasurer, or indicate ELC on your tithe envelope. Give whatever you can and make a difference in the lives of our students. -Dr. Leonard A. Johnson, President, BC

Pathfinders: Making a Difference Generally, worldwide, the third Saturday in September is World Pathfinder Day. Therefore, here in the Bahamas on Saturday, September 20th, at various Seventh-day Adventist Churches, we will be focusing on the value and worth of our young people through the Pathfinder program.

This past weekend, we started Pathfinder week with a program in South Andros. Bro. Rohan Creighton, our Adventurer Coordinator, encouraged the members and young people of that community.

On Sunday past, at the Living Faith Church on Old Trail Road, over 40 Eager Beavers, Adventurers, and Pathfinders were invested after completing various class requirements. Dr. Leonard Johnson gave greetings and saluted Director Randy Johnson for committed and dedicated service. Bro. Randy also gave the director's report, highlighting the various events of the year.

In his charge, our youth director, pastor Andrew Burrows, encouraged the Pathfinders to take a more active role in the communities. He said that pathfinders are known as the largest uniformed youth group in the country, but we should not sit back and glory in just looking good. We have to move beyond this level and climb a little higher on the ladder of service. Pathfinders of the year were Jamaal Rolle and Tamara Mackey. Adventurers of the year were Rancario Johnson and Shaniece Saunders

On World Pathfinder Day, this Sabbath each local church will be hosting pathfinder programs. Governmental leaders and community leaders and other youth have been invited to be a part of these services at the various churches. The highlight of the week will be the National Pathfinder Parade on Sunday, September 21st. Hundreds of Pathfinders, Adventurers, Eager Beavers, and Masterguides will march from Windsor Park to the Big Tent at the Sports Center opposite the Government High School. The nationally acclaimed Pathfinder Band along with the dynamic Hillview Pathfinder Band will provide music for the parade. Church members in their T-shirts will be out in full numbers. Bring your banners and posters. Our aim is to display a positive message to this country. You are invited to join us

All are asked to assemble at Windsor Park no later than 4:15 p.m. The parade will start at 5 o’clock We will march south onto Cordeaux Ave, west onto Market Street, South onto Robinson Road, west onto Balliou Road. South on Balliou Road into Yellow Elder and to the Let God Speak Big Tent. Parents are encouraged to take a snack for their children after the parade because we will be staying on for the service. - Pastor A. Burrows, Youth Director

WI Union Personal Ministries Director to Visit Pastor Basil Reid, Personal Ministries director of West Indies Union, will be visiting the Bahamas during the month of October. A special joint service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hillview Church. All SDA members are asked to attend as some exciting information will be shared with the local field.

Education Corner
Each new school year brings the opportunity to introduce fresh and exciting programs into the school's daily activities. One such program at the elementary division is entitled "See How Mannerly We Are". Students are being encouraged to be mannerly towards their friends and teachers. When they demonstrate these traits, they will receive points, stickers, treats, and prizes. Students whose points accumulate will be honored during our regular monthly chapel period--the last Friday of every month.

Teachers who have been around the classroom for many years will admit that today's child is, in general, much less respectful and mannerly than the typical child of a generation ago. Unfortunately, unless children learn respect for others, beginning with adults, they can never learn to respect themselves. Manners and respect are inseparable. Children begin developing respect for others by first developing

it for their parents. Children should be taught to behave in mannerly ways toward their parents. That means children should not be allowed to call their parents (or any adult for that matter) by their first names, to interrupt adult conversations unless in crisis, or to throw tantrums when they don't get their own way. Children should also be taught to respond to all adults, including their parents, with "Yes, Sir" and "Yes, Ma'am" (after all, isn't that how we were raised?). When adults speak, children should pay attention; and when adults give instructions, children should carry them out. It's as simple as that. Here are some tips for teaching good manners:

* Work on one thing at a time. For example, work on table manners first. When that has been perfected, go on to teach telephone manners, etc.

* Praise your children for their successes. When your kids display proper manners at home or in public, tell them immediately how well they did.

* Be tolerant when your child forgets, but don't overlook his forgetfulness. Avoid scolding a child in public when he forgets. Gently remind him what he should have said or done.

* Set a good example. Your children must see you setting a good example when it comes to manners. If you want your children to behave in a mannerly way toward you, you must behave in a mannerly way toward them as well. Parents, we cannot do it without you. We will teach and reinforce these social graces at school. But we need you to continue doing it at home. Let's work together as we help our kids remember to say: "please, thank you, I'm sorry, pardon me, good morning, no, sir, and no, ma'am". We will publish the names of students awarded at the end of each month for being mannerly. Happy teaching! -Lynn C. Smith, Principal

VBA Update The work on the ELC building is progressing in spite of the weather. We appreciate the support the VBA members have given , but we still need the help of carpenters, masons and other helpers. At 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, the work continues. No matter what you can do, if you are well, please come for a few hours. Thanks for your continued support.
