Pathfinders, Youth Arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

You see them smartly dressed in their khaki and white, with all the various badges and regalia. They are the hundreds of young people who are a part of a youth organization making a difference in the Bahamas. They are the "Pathfinders"!

The Pathfinder Club is a worldwide organization sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its nearly 30,000 clubs operate in 130 countries with a world membership of over two million Pathfinders.

In the Bahamas there are more than 30 clubs, with over a 1000 members. Perhaps, there is a Pathfinder Club in your community. Any youth ages 10-15, who promises to abide by the Pathfinder Pledge and Law can join a Pathfinder Club. In addition there is the Adventurer Club for boys and girls ages 6-9, and the Masterguides (leaders) for young men and women ages 16 and over.

World Pathfinder Day Each year on the third Saturday in September, worldwide recognition is given to the Pathfinder Organization, a vital ministry in the Adventist Church and thus this day is dubbed World Pathfinder Day.
Here in the Bahamas, and around the world, on this coming Saturday, September 17 in many of the Seventh-day churches, Pathfinders will conduct the services in their own special way.

Pathfinder March  Several years ago, we added another dimension to these celebrations. Originally called Pathfinder Turn Out Day, each pathfinder club was encouraged to have all their pathfinders in uniform for a parade and exhibition. Now, on the third Sunday in September, to coincide with world Pathfinder Day, we have our Annual Pathfinder Parade. The aim is to target a section of New Providence, and take a positive message to the communities.
Whenever Pathfinders adorn their colors, and the nationally acclaimed Pathfinder Band strikes up the marching sounds, we are sending a message to our nation. We are sharing a message that young people could choose positive activities that help to build character. An excerpt from the

Pathfinder song says that we have "a message to tell to the world."
Therefore, on this Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m., the Pathfinders will take that message from Bahamas Academy throughout the Wulff Road, Lincoln Blvd, and Balfour Avenue communities.

Touching Lives While Pathfinders enjoy the uniform, marching, drilling, camping, star gazing, etc..., there is more. The main focus is on touching lives and building communities. Therefore, during and after the parade we intend to share with communities and give out food items to needy persons.

Pathfinder Establishment Teams Pathfinders have come along way since the early 1950's. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our effectiveness in fulfilling our mission. Our P.E.T program (Pathfinder Establishment Teams) which seeks to establish pathfinder clubs in schools and other areas outside the church walls is going great. With two clubs at two of our government institutions, we are seeing young lives being changed and impacted positively.

Official Non-Profit Organization Recently, the Pathfinder Organization has been incorporated as a registered company within the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. This now allows the organization to be more effective in utilizing the resources and interest of the nation in assisting with its program of developing lives and moulding character.
Immediately following the parade at the Bahamas Academy school grounds we would like to introduce to the nation the officers of the Pathfinder Club Incorporated. There is much to be done for salvation and development of the youth of nation.

For more than fifty years, the Pathfinder Organization has been finding new paths. Today, it is a privilege to continue this unique ministry. Join us this Saturday, World Pathfinder Day at any of the Seventh-day Churches. March and share with us on this Sunday from Bahamas Academy School at 5:00 p.m.

Thanks to the Pathfinders Special thanks is extended to all Pathfinders, Youth Leaders, and the Pathfinder Band for your show of support during the recent funeral service for Thompson Charite`. At short notice, you exemplified the spirit of Pathfindering. Your ministry during the church service, on the parade, and at the grave-site will go along way to comfort the family.
All Adventurers, Pathfinders, Masterguides, AY Leaders, in full uniform and other church members youth groups in their t-shirts are asked to assemble at the Bahamas Academy gym at 4:15 p.m this Sunday. Pathfinder directors are asked to bring the food items collected to the Johnson Park Church after A.Y. today. Volunteers are also needed to sort out and package the items.

Bahamas Academy Reunion Banquet October 23, 2005

Men -Empowered to Serve Ellen White wrote "The greatest want of the world is the want of men - men who will not be bought or sold; men who in their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to call sin by its right name; men whose conscience is as true to duty as is a needle to the pole; men who will stand for right though the heavens fall." What a need, and what an opportunity. To better prepare ourselves for this awesome opportunity, the men of the Berea Seventh-day Adventist Church decided to stand apart from regular weekend activities, and September 09 - 11, retreated to the peace of the Adventure Learning Camp on Marshall Road for our first Men and Boys Seminar. On Friday evening, Conference Adventist Men Leader Pastor Paul Scavella opened our sessions with the challenge to recognize that each of us is a leader chosen by God. He allowed us to envision what a powerful force we could be if we put our lives in God's hands.

On Sabbath morning after a sobering worship by Osmond LaCroix, Pastor Clarke reminded us of the power that is available to us through prayer. This was the first of a two part series on Men and Prayer. Our morning continued with sessions on Faith and Finance as Brother Raymond Antonio showed us how tithing and the giving of a free will offering are acts of worship. An awesome and enlightening discourse on Fathering: Boys to Men with Pastor Duncombe was the continuation of this soul expanding experience. Brother Leon Mars led out in our worship service, which was an extended and in-depth discussion of the adult Sabbath School lesson, featuring Worship.

After a delicious and nutritious lunch prepared by Colin Francis, Elgin Hepburn began our two part series on Men's Health, as he encouraged us to obey the health laws, for our own health and as a way to be a more effective witness for God and His concern for His people. Pastor Paul Scavella came back to us to reveal the value in achievement for God as he presented Self Improvement and Personal Development. The dynamic Brother Kenny Deveaux completed the series on Men and Prayer.

On Sunday, our early morning worship by Nelson Moncur was a banner of encouragement. Then we completed our series on Faith and Finance with Brother Antonio, and Fathering: Boys to Men with Pastor Duncombe. Dr. Joseph Evans completed the session on Men's Health as he gave us insights on medical conditions peculiar to men. We ended the seminar with a charge from Berea Adventist Men Leader Audley Mitchell.   As we move back to Berea and our churches, filled through the word and teaching, by the grace of God we endeavour to be truly dedicated church leaders; more loving husbands, more discerning fathers, obedient sons; Christian brothers, and effective witnesses.

Important Tips for Group Picnics or Swimming When a church group or large family plans a pinic at the beach the following guidelines should be followed:
1. It is important that the event or activity be covered by the appropriate insurance. If in doubt, contact the Conference Office.
2. As far as possible, find an area where your group could be controlled and seen at all times.
3. Choose appropriate times for swimming. For example, don't go swimming immediately after eating.
4. Team up in partners when going in the water. No one should go in the water without a partner.
5. Choose persons/leaders who are strong swimmers to be in the water and form a human barrier. No one should go beyond these designated persons.
6. Persons should also be selected to serve as "lookout" on shore. These persons should have whistles that they could warn of danger.
7. Blow the whistle at different intervals to indicate that everybody in the water needs to hold and show his/her partner's hand.
8. Persons trained in C.P.R. or other medical personnel should be a part of a group.
