Hope Channel Interviews the Ten Commandments Commission Leaders

Click HERE to download and print out the Hope Channel Petition.  We encourage you to fill it out and fax it to 1-301 680 5147 mail to the address on the form.

[March 15, 2006] What are the goals of the Ten Commandments Commission? Do they include pushing for Sunday laws? You can find out by tuning into a very special one hour broadcast of Inside Hope beginning Friday, March 17 to 25. Hosts Brad Thorp and Gary Gibbs will interview Ron Wexler and Blackie Gonzales, the two leaders of this Commission, to ask them these questions.

The Ten Commandments Commission is a powerful coalition of religious leaders that include some of the most recognized names in Christianity. Adventists have been speculating as to what their real goals include. The Hope Channel decided to go right to the source and ask Wexler and Gonzales to appear on our Inside Hope program to explain what the Commission intends to accomplish. We will also share with these men the contents of our Hope Channel petition and discuss the points of concerns that Adventists have with a popular movement like the Ten Commandments Commission.

If you would like to participate in asking questions of Wexler and Gonzales, you can do so by sending a brief question via e-mail to 10cc@hopetv.org. The taping for the show is on Thursday morning, March 16, and we will need to get your questions before then.

Thousands of people have responded to the Hope Channel Petition to the Ten Commandments Commission, but we would like to include many more. It is not too late to encourage your church to participate in the petition. Petitions will be presented to the Commission around May 1. You can get a copy of the petition at www.hopetv.org or call us at 1-888-446-7388 (1-888-4-HOPE-TV).

The Hope Channel is not endorsing the Commission or their Ten Commandments Day. Hope Channel sees this as an opportunity for church members to share with Commission leaders and our neighbors what Adventists believe. This is an opportunity that should not be missed. Be sure to watch Inside Hope for this very special broadcast.

Update On the President of Andrews University

[March 13, 2006]  Click HERE to listen to Dr. Niels-Erik Andreasen Speaks to Andrews Campus

The following is a letter from the Alumni Services, Andrews University, Michigan:

"Dear Alums and Friends:  I would like to update you on developments here on campus and clarify some of the questions many of you have raised. The following e-mail was sent out campus wide, this morning, and I share it with you now, in its entirety.

Dr. Niels-Erik Andreasen to Serve as President
of Andrews University until June 30

A specially called meeting of the Andrews University Board of Trustees convened on March 9 at 7:00 pm. The Board took an action asking Dr. Niels-Erik Andreasen to continue serving as president of the University for the Remainder of its fiscal year, ending June 30. Andreasen agreed to the request.

Andreasen had served as president of the university for 12 years until his resignation at the regular Board meeting on March 6.

At a break during that meeting, the leadership of the board asked Dr. Andreasen for his resignation and he agreed. When he wrote his resignation letter, Andreasen stated that it would be "effective immediately." Apparently, it was that phrase which was the root of a misunderstanding between Andreasen and the Board. Andreasen thought the Board was wishing for his resignation to be immediate while the Board, upon receipt of his letter, assumed that it was Andreasen's wish for a quick conclusion.

After that meeting, some trustees talked further with Andreasen and recognized the misunderstanding that had emerged. They, in turn, asked Elder Gerald Karst, chair of the Board of Trustees and general vice president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, to call a special meeting to ask for clarification.

The meeting was called and the Board voted overwhelmingly to ask Dr. Andreasen to serve in his current capacity until June 30, to help ensure stability and continuity in the university's operations as new leadership is identified and put in place.

"Dr. Andreasen is a gifted thinker and servant leader who has given valuable leadership to Andrews for more than a decade," says Elder Karst "Although the board has determined that Andrews needs some of the opportunities that could be offered by new leadership, I'm pleased that Dr. Andreasen will be staying by for the remainder of this school year."

On March 6, the board's requested resignations of Dr. Andreasen, along with two vice presidents, followed a number of years of strategic discussions that began following significant financial losses for the university during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 fiscal years.

While improvements had been made, the board felt that the modest growth in revenue and student populations during these years did not match the scope and speed needed to equip the university for successful long-term operations and growth.

A 13-member presidential search committee will now be appointed, and will be made up of board members, university faculty, staff, alumni and student representatives.

The full board will meet again before the end of March to complete voting and endorsement of new faculty and staff appointments, the budget for the 2006-2007 fiscal year, and other unfinished business from its March 6 agenda.

______________

I would just like to add that if you have any suggestions for names of people willing to serve on the search committee or potential candidates, or if you have any questions, please send them on to me.

Although this is a time of great change, Andrews University is still God’s school. We are fulfilling an important role in providing leadership and service to the world church, and as He directs, we are confident that Andrews will continue to serve in this capacity in the future. With spring graduation just around the corner, a busy summer class offering and Homecoming in the fall, there are many good things happening here to keep us busy.

As we enter the uncharted waters before us, would you please keep us in your prayers? May God be honored in the decisions that are made and may Andrews move forward with Him at the helm."

Serving Him,

With Heartfelt Gratitude

Pastor Keith D. Albury

[March 10, 2006] We--Sister Ann Albury, Pastor Keith Anson Albury, Alden and Brendon Albury, and the family of the late Pastor Keith Densel Albury--extend our deep and sincere appreciation to the administrators and staff of the Inter-American Division; the administrators, pastors, shepherdesses and staff of West Indies Union Conference; the administration, pastors, shepherdesses and members of the North Bahamas Mission and Bahamas Conference; the administrators, pastors, shepherdesses and the entire membership of East, Central, and West Jamaica Conferences, the Cayman Islands Conference; the administration, pastors, shepherdesses and members of the North Jamaica and Turks and Caicos Mission; ministerial colleagues and friends in the North American Division; the administration and pastors of Caribbean Union Conference; Pastor and Mrs. L.V. McMillan; our many friends and relatives in The Bahamas and around the globe for your wonderful expressions of love, kindness and sympathy  during our time of sorrow.

Your gifts of flowers, food, cards, telephone calls, visits, tributes, words of condolences via e-mail or orally, prayers, and simply being there with a listening ear gave us much needed comfort, support and encouragement at a very difficult time.  Whatever part you played to console our hearts will always be remembered as we face the future leaning on the everlasting arms of God. We thank you and we solicit your continued prayers.

Pastor Keith Albury loved his God, his family and people with great passion.  He fulfilled the mandate that was given him twenty-six and a half years ago to preach the gospel, and he did so even through his battle with cancer.   For those of us who are left behind, may his words be the sentiments of our hearts as we move forward to finish the work he loved so dearly:   “May our confidence about the future rest on the assurance of God’s word that outlines the glorious destiny of this worldwide remnant church of which we are a part. We will press forward investing our energies, talents and resources in proclaiming the everlasting gospel of a wonderful Savior who is mighty to save.  Indeed we shall not rest until every hamlet, every town, and every island is illuminated with the light of the truth of God’s Word for these times.  Let us join hands in one faith, one mission, and one blessed hope looking forward to that day when we will stand on the sea of glass and glorious sing that song of freedom:  The song of Moses and the Lamb.  May the blessings of Almighty God be upon us all as we renew out commitment to be faithful to Him until that Day.”  (Excerpt from the North Bahamas Mission Report given at West Indies Union Conference Session, November 2005)
