He was born in 1960 to the late Doreen Darling and Leonard
A. Johnson Sr. in New
Providence,
The Bahamas. On January 1, 1984, he married Denise Cooper and together they
were blessed with two children, Larnelle an undergraduate at Montemorelos
University, Mexico; and a girl, Darnell, a student at Bahamas Academy
Secondary.
Education
He attended the Prince Williams Baptist High School where he graduated
in 1976. A year later, he matriculated at Northern Caribbean University,
formerly West Indies College. There he pursued a Bachelors degree in
Theology with a minor in History graduating in 1981. In 1985 he enrolled in
the Andrews University Extension Program and graduated in 1990 with a
Masters degree in Religion. Additionally, he enrolled in the Master of
Divinity program on the campus of Andrews University in the summer of 1989
and completed studies leading to the Master of Divinity equivalent. Yet, in
his quest for higher and wider studies, he commenced the Doctor of Ministry
program at Andrews University in 1990, but later transferred to the Reformed
Theological Seminary where he continued with the Doctor of Ministry program
and graduated in 1994.
Experiences and Accomplishments
His internship began under the tutelage of Pastor Hugh A. Roach at the
Centreville Church in September 1981. Fourteen months later he was
transferred to the Englerston Seventh-day Adventist Church. About five
months after this, he assumed responsibility for the Abaco District. In
addition, he has pastored the Johnson Park, Maranatha, Philadelphia, Breath
of Life, Grant’s Town and New Providence Seventh-day Adventist Churches. In
1987, he accepted a call to work in the Cayman Islands as a pastor and Youth
and Education Director. The Lord also led in allowing Pastor Johnson to be a
part of a group responsible for starting the Abaco Pre-School in Marsh
Harbour, Abaco. Additionally,
Pastor Johnson was gifted with the idea of youth oriented
television program while serving as Youth Director. The program, which is
Listen Up, is the longest televised youth program in the Bahamas. Later he
also introduced a second television program called Adventist Spotlight,
which airs weekly on Cable TV channel 12. Apart from serving as District
Pastor, he also served as a departmental Director in the departments of
Youth, Education and Communication. In January 1999, he was elected to serve
as the Executive Secretary of the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day
Adventists. Four years later, on January 9, 2003, Dr. Leonard A. Johnson was
elected to serve as President of the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day
Adventists. Currently, Dr. Johnson serves in that capacity as well, as
pastor of The Centreville Seventh-day Adventist Church, Fifth Terrace,
Centreville.
Hobbies
Hobbies include working on the computers, traveling, reading and
