What is
Souls Culture?
Souls Culture
is also a bold challenge undertaken by our Bahamas Conference
designed to remind each member of our identity - “Who we are?”
Secondly, what we are about –our mission which is to lead others to
a knowledge of Christ. It also speaks to How we are to go about
doing that? So Souls culture seeks to foster a culture within the
church that goes beyond 2010 –it seeks to create a mindset getting
each member to engage in soul winning daily, monthly and yearly at
home, on the job and at church. It is about creating a culture –a
way of thinking and going about the King’s business daily.

Souls Culture
is an Attitude
A passage
employed on the occasion of my ordination was Mark 3:13,14 pointing
to Jesus going up into a mountain and calling unto Him whom He
desired that they might be with Him and that He might send them out
to preach, etc. The idea of going to preach, teach or doing
something excites some of us that we overlook what precedes and that
is spending time with Christ before going out for Christ. How often
do we presume to speak or act on behalf of Christ without knowing
Him and His will? Souls Culture demands that “we be” before “we
do;” thus it is more than just seeking souls –it involves members
and workers living what they profess.
Imagine if more
of us or every member possessed a positive attitude —that could
serve as the catalyst for drawing persons to a knowledge of God.
The following words clarify: “Be kinder than necessary, for everyone
you meet is fighting some kind of battle.” It is quite possible
that with a change of attitude more persons could be won for Christ.

Souls Culture is Ongoing
- Souls
Culture, unlike crusades, is ongoing. It is not seasonal, and
thus it forces a member to be each day what he professes — that
is a Christian. So if I live what I profess, I am making an
impact. It registers more than what I say. I am sure you
remember the well known saying, “I would rather see a sermon
than hear one.” With this type of mindset “Tell the World”,
“Pentecost and More” or “Souls Culture” is mission driven. We
are Seventh-day Adventists and our mission is “to proclaim the
everlasting gospel to all peoples of our region making disciples
of all”

Souls Culture Benefits the Church
- With a
positive disposition come positive results not only in souls but
in giving and faithfulness. Money is needed to further advance
the spread of the gospel of Jesus. With more funds coming in we
can employ more workers to do the work of God; we can assist
more persons given the recession and recent job lay –offs. We
also can build with little strain the new Bahamas Academy which
is badly needed for our children.

Souls Culture Involves Accountability
- Souls
Culture has forced the local leadership to prepare job
descriptions for each worker as well as evaluation instruments.
If Souls Culture is to be effective, workers must know what it
entails and what is their role. Consequently, the Office of the
Secretariat has seen to the preparation of job descriptions for
all workers. You should know that the world church recently
opened an office of assessment, headed by Dr. Brantley, to give
focus to efficiency and accountability. Therefore, Souls
Culture requires that we not only be the best for the Lord but
that we are accountable! Have a blessed Lord’s Day! - Pastor
