Karenda S. Williams-Swain made history on February 26, 2002, at Canadian University College in Alberta Canada (A Seventh-day Adventist Institution). She was elected as the President of the United Student Movement.  She is the first Bahamian and not to mention black female President ever to hold such a prestigious office.  Karenda is a native of Freeport, Grand Bahama and a member of the Eight Mile Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church.  She has two wonderful children (Enka and Kenan) and is the daughter of Selma and Stanley Williams and the sister of Leona and Kingsley Hylton.

She is a Business Student with a minor in Industrial Psychology and looks forward to returning home this summer where she intends to seek employment.  Karenda will be graduating in April (2003) and plans to return home to make her contribution and give back to her community.

She will be traveling to Oakwood College at the end of March where she’ll be representing her fellow students at a leadership conference.  During her talks with her peers and especially in her speeches, Karenda always finds time to share the beauty of her home, the Bahamas and in particular, Grand Bahama.  Even though she is in Canada accomplishing some of the goals she has set, she is a firm believer that “there is no place like home.”
