Profile of Dr.
Robert Cruise Dr. Robert J. Cruise graduated from the
University of Alabama with a Ph.D. in Research and Statistical
Methodology. Immediately after graduation, he accepted a position
at Andrews University in the doctoral program of education. From
this vantage point, he taught and guided many of the current
educational leaders of the church. Many of those you know, he
probably has taught and guided through the dissertation process.
After teaching
there for 15 years, he accepted a call from the School of Medicine
at Loma Linda University to come and head up the department of
biostatistics. For another 10 years he taught physicians, dentists,
nurses and public health students, guiding them through the rough
waters of statistical analysis. Then the General Conference asked
him to go to Asia to teach in the graduate program that the church
has established in the Philippines. That school, Adventist
International Institute of Advanced Studies, which many call the
Andrews University of Asia, was his home for three years. He
traveled and taught in most of the Asian countries, once again
spreading his skills at making statistics and research enjoyable and
appreciated.
After returning to
the Unites States, he accepted a position at
La Sierra
University as Director of research. His latest endeavor is what
brings him to the Bahamas. He is the research director of the
largest educational study that has ever been conducted by the
church. Its purpose is to assess Adventist academics. That study,
called CognitiveGenesis,
is a three year study to see how our elementary and secondary
students in North American Division are doing compared to the
national norms.
It also aims to find
out what we are doing well and in what areas we could improve. The
study has just finished the second year, and Dr. Cruise will share
with us today, at the Hillview Church, the results thus far in this
landmark study in the Adventist educational system. |
