Evangelism Harvests First Fruits
The Spirit of evangelism continued last Sabbath as we witnessed more baptisms from the various crusades during this first quarter of 2002.

Baptism results to date indicate that God has added to His church those who will be saved through our combined efforts.

The Voice of Hope Crusade, with Evangelist L. A. Johnson, reported baptisms of 18 precious souls as it concluded on Wednesday, March 20th.

The Family Life Crusade, with Evangelist E. D. Clarke, is reporting baptisms of 20 precious souls into its fellowship.

The Path to Truth Crusade, featuring Evangelist M. D. Toote, supported by Pastors A. Burrows, T. Basil Sturrup and K. D. Albury, reports baptisms of 41 precious souls. According to Dr. Toote, another baptismal service is planned for today.

Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe, leading the Breath of Life Church in an Easter Pentecostal Revival, has seen 13 precious souls seal their acceptance of Jesus Christ. Revival meetings continue this week at 7:15 p.m. at the church on Marshall Road.

The New Beginning Gospel Prophecy Seminar, being conducted by Pastor M. A. Smith at the Hillview Church had baptisms last Sabbath. Another open invitation is available for persons to join the church by baptism today at the conclusion of the sermon which will begin at 10:50 a.m It is hoped, said Pastor Smith, that people can see all is not lost, "and with God we can have a new beginning.."

The crusade at the Berea SDA Church, which began on Sunday night, March 17, 2002, concludes this week under the enthusiastic preaching of Evangelist Owusu Boateng, who, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, inspired those in attendance with the word of God, admonishing them to make Jesus their choice. Meetings are held nightly at 7 o’clock. All are encouraged to attend.

In spite of obstacles, God has certainly blessed in these campaigns. A major concern voiced by all is the low level of membership participation. We want to encourage you, brethren, to do more to support the crusades in your areas. Let none say "There is nothing I can do." There is something to be done by everyone if all we do is attend. Let us seek to invite our friends, our family members, and backslidden members. If you want to see them saved in God’s kingdom, let us invite them to the meetings. There is too much evil, too much violence prevailing and invading our land. The one you invite today may be a life you help to save tomorrow. The hour is late and God needs you to point others to Him that they might be saved. The servant of the Lord said in Testimonies, Volume 6, page 67, "Pray with these souls. By faith, bring them to the foot of the cross. Carry their minds with your mind and fix the eye of faith where you look upon Jesus, the sin bearer. Get them to look from their poor, sinful selves to the Savior and the victory is won.." - L. C. Rolle, Ministerial Secretary

NCU Team Visits Japan Northern Caribbean University President Dr. Herbert Thompson led a four-man delegation to Japan February 1 to 11, 2002. The trip was in response to a visit by a delegation from Japan to NCU in late 2001 to explore possible ways in which co-operation between NCU and two Japanese universities could be developed.

At an official signing ceremony held in the conference room of the Asia Pacific University in Oita, Japan, on February 5, 2001, NCU and APU agreed to enter into an exchange program of teachers and students. Similar discussions have commenced with the Senshu University in Tokyo, Japan. Both universities have much to offer in terms of information technology, technical sciences and languages.

The visit was planned by the Jamaican Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Earl Carr, who is a proud graduate of NCU. The facilitation was by Madame Goto, Director of the Oita International Trade Center, who was the leader of the delegation to Jamaica. Staff of the Jamaican Embassy in Tokyo were also helpful to the NCU team.

Among the direct benefits of the trip were:  Promise of technical assistance from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Tokyo for the NCU Community Computer Outreach (CCO).

1. Funding was also promised for the Generation Project being spearheaded by Dr. Gardner.

2. Meetings with the Japan International Co-operation Agency in Tokyo also resulted in the promise of assistance for the Generation Project and the CCO. Proposals are now being written for presentation to the IDB and JICA office in Kingston, Jamaica.

3. The agreement with Asia Pacific and Senshu universities calls for NCU to set up an English-Language Institute for Asian Students. The emphasis in the institute is to be conversational English, which is very limited among the Japanese.

4. NCU will be getting teachers from Japan in information and technical sciences. Some of these persons will be individuals who have retired, but have volunteered to lend their expertise to NCU.

5. The making of paper from the banana trunk was the focus of a meeting held at the Jamaican Embassy with the professor who pioneered the technology. He has agreed to visit NCU in late August this year to conduct workshops in the field. The NCU press will be a focal point of this exercise

6. The NCU team visited several industries to observe techniques in packaging and presentation. In addition, the team observed the manufacture of several products for which raw material is available in Jamaica.

-Dr. Althea McMillan, Editor and Provost of NCU
