Do Adventist Christians Really Need Counseling?
Do Seventh-day Adventist Christians really need counseling? All human beings, including Adventists, face challenges, trials, disappointments, or may suffer from psychological disorders that often require the assistance of a professional.  We are taught as Christians to "bear on another’s burdens."   We go to church on Sabbaths to fellowship, and more so to expose ourselves to teachings and instructions that help us to live a more balanced life in our private and public world. Similarly, professional counselors can help you identify problems that pastors are not trained to identify or treat. The counselor can assist you in finding the best ways to cope with the situation by changing behaviors that contribute to the problem or by finding constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control. Sometimes, Christians are diagnosed with clinical depression or other psychological disorders, that requires the treatment by a physician who prescribes the needed medication. A professional counselor is trained to refer such individuals to the proper professional to facilitate in the treatment process. Medication is often needed because many psychological disorders can be a result of a have biological dysfunction.  However, most difficulties that requires counseling does not need the aid of a medical doctor or medication.
